Default 700R4 keep it or scrap it???

I have a 85 T/A that had a 305 TPI in it. I am now dropping in a 355ci and I took all the computer junk out off it. I plan on using this car as a daily driver with some visits to the track. Also the 700R4 tranny I am going to use is stock and has sat for about a year now. BTW I need overdrive I
My questions are, should I be concerned about the reliability with a more powerful engine? Would a rebuild be helpful? Will I still have O/D without the computer? Should I just go with a new tranny?
I am on a budget right now but any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well the trans probably could use a going through, It will have overdrive but without the wires it will not have lockup and may over heat. You make want to consider a lockup kit for the 700r4 like TCI sells. Personally with and 85 I would consider replacing the unit with a built one . More than likely with the new engine you will be anyway.

Would a tranny cooler help??? Could I get away with a stock rebuild? How much abuse can this transmissions take, if I could get it to last the summer thats all I need. A new trans was planned for next year when I do the rear-end and add some N2O.

You could put a mild shift kit in and a cooler always helps But wether it will last till next year to many variables I am afraid to make a call depends alot on how hard your drive it
