I know its a stupid question but with gas prices these days. Why buy more octane than you need?

If you optimize your setup to run higher octane you can actually gain MPG's. Thus offseting the difference in price and saving money in the long run.

That is a pretty low DCR. You may actually be able to run 87, and it may actually offer higher performance than 93. Thats the drawback of running a big cam with stock heads and compression. You leave so much on the table in terms of DCR. You certainly need some sort of tuning, and youll need to very carefully monitor the motor for any signs of knock. That being said, Id still rather just bump up the timing, and pay the extra couple bucks for 93. You didnt put a cam in the car for fuel economy.

why the hell would you want to run 87 octane? Is it really worth it to you to save $5 MAX per fill up by running 87 over 93?

Cuz if it doesn hurt anything or cost power ynot run the 87 octane? There was a thread on the truck forums about the stock dcr and it was around 7.5 and it runs on 87 from the factory.

I dont know what the point of this thread. Just thinking out loud.
