Default STUPID DRAMA issue with my new 370

Long story short......I have some bastard crank from the 99-00 6.0l trucks. Its is ~1/4" longer than all other LS/LQ9 cranks. Makes the flexplate stick out too far for the starter. Soooooooooooooooo

Anyone ever ran into this problem before? TCI was no help and TSP said to run a GM flexplate for these trucks which does not help my NHRA certification for 8.50.

I'm crossing my fingers a starter for this year truck would be the fix. Whatcha all think?

PS--I ran the flexplate backwards for the break-in of my motor but that isn't safe once I start leaning on this bitch.

Are you using a 99-00 80e?
If so, the starter should fix your problem.

If not, you've got another problem

you could always swap starters out.

what about the converter spacing?Who built the motor? Those cranks aren't always in iron headed motors.I've picked up a few 6.0's with them and they had 317's on them(lq4's)

Converter spacing is fixable by a little machining of the bosses on the flexplate, and on the converter flange. The motor was assembled by a good friend of mine, and installed (with the trans) by my other friend Matt at Caliber Customs. I have hope for the starter. Might grab one by tomorrow! Cross your fingers boys!!!!!

Exact situation happend to a friend and he resolved it by, as told by him don't quote me on this, flipping the flywheel, it was manual trans, and fabricating a spacer.

Your best shot is to get a starter for that specific truck that the crank came in, 99-00 6.0L trucks.

UPDATE:

At autozone, the part numbers for the 2000 truck starters are the same as a 2001 camaro, and the 2001 truck starter has a different number. I ordered one and it will be in in a few hours. Cross your fingers the teeth are a 1/4 further out!

UPDATE: Starter is the same. Apparently the flexplate must be different. ****. Who makes an SFI flexplate for this POS 6.0 crank?

Can you modify the starter, ie. reposition the mount holes to compensate? Then resleeve the holes. I don't think you are going to find an sfi flexplate for those oddball cranks. Did you try a 99 starter?

All the starters are the same.

I believe the difference is so small, that modifying the mounting holes is out the window.

Maybe a shim or 2? I had to shim my starter when I used a 5.3 starter on my 6.0 with a TCI flexplate. I got a new starter for the 6.0,different part #, but have not tried it yet. The 6.0 starter was more expensive.

Pics? I don't think you get how the starter is out of position. The teeth barely touch the flexplate. It needs to extend 1/4" towards the rear of the car. I can't see how you could use a "shim" to compensate.
