Default TH400 swap with a 2bar SD tune, how many needed to retune the A/F after the swap

Sheit, having the toughest time. I swapped the TH400 into the car over the winter along with a Moser 9.

Really hadn't driven it until now and my idle and cruise air fuel is way outta shape.....no matter what I do I can't get it back in line.

The MAP value that its in is 12 and I can't tune for that value with the lowest the HPT editor has is 15....so this could be a reason I'd think...but probably wrong. In park or neutral with no load, my a/f is nice...14.7's. In gear 15-16's

This is with a 2 bar SD tune FWIW. Is the TH400 putting that much of a load over the 4l60e that its requiring more fuel to get it to idle in gear or cruise?

I've taken the car past the lean points, transitioning into WOT and the a/f falls back into line too...11.5-1.

How many had to totally retune the car after a TH400 swap?

Try to put it on the transbrake FORGET THAT, goes lean all to quickly. So I guess I have to tune for the T brake as well?

Any help or advice would be great

What trans did you have in it before? Was it a 60e? If so try flashing a 6speed cal into it, so its not looking for prndl.

Yea thats probably the problem, when i first put in my th400 i didnt delete the a4 trans so i was constantly looking for its shifts ect. I believe it automatically throws the computer into some weird mode like safe mode yet for me it was super lean mode.

Car was cam only at the time, with a4 ran 11.7's. Then swapped to th400 and ran 12.7's extremely lean with that problem, added 2 psi thinking thats the problem went 12.4 still super lean and packed her up.

Got home and researched that i needed to delete the a4 or just re flash with m6, so i did that and went back to the track and went 11.2's with normal a/f reading again.

If you havent gotten rid of the a4 stuff then thats probably your problem.

Thanks, it was a 60e. I turned off the PRNDL in HPT and zero'ed all automatic shift tables. It is throwing a billion 4l60e related codes, that HPT offers no way of turning off. Guess i'll DL a 98 M6 file and swap everything over and try it. Thanks for the help fellas.

I use HPT as well, i cant remember is i deleted and zerod everything out or if i just copied the tables over from my a4 to m6 file. I am thinking i used a m6 file. Just use the compare feature and set the difference tables to 0. Alot quicker that way.

The M6 file should solve your problems Jer. I have heard of others having the same issue.

I DL'ed a 98 M6 file yesterday off this board....it was posted by Foff67(HPT forum moderator) so hopefully it'll work and not fry my PCM.

hokay.....did the M6 write entire, and happily reporting that all tranny codes are turned OFF

BUT the issue persists, the car is going lean in gear, right off idle. Nothing seemed to help it, just when we added more timing for ***** and giggles. I added 10 degrees and the A/F cleaned up nicely and when the throttle was stabbed(in gear) it only went to 15.0-15.3-1 on the WB.

In park or neutral the car is normal.

We added more fuel, messed with other lil odds and ends and nothing but the timing worked to kill the lean condition.

Tune up is going to be under way now, new plugs, wires, fuel filter....

You tunning SD w/o a MAF. Are you using the backup VE tables? You will need to with the 98pcm.

Yeah been running 2 bar SD for a long time with my 98 PCM......never had this problem until I swapped the TH400 into the car....and now it goes lean off idle/in gear. Before the TH400 swap the a/f was damn near perfect in all ranges except decel where the car would go pig rich, but meh I could live with that.

Nothing ever goes right when it comes to these flippin cars unless you are KP

This may sound dumb, but how old is the wideband sensor? How positive are you that its a accurate signal.

That was the first thing I suspected and I replaced it immediately...no change. But on that note if you need a WBO2 sensor for your LM1 or LC1, get it off amazon.com....50 bucks

Believe me I have had my share of issues lol, thats why I have a BS3 in this car. 98's suck ***** as far as the PCM goes once you leave the MAF behind..
