Default Fan (push or pull) for P1SC Procharger kit

I installed a P1SC Procharger kit on my 98 LS1 Camaro. I hooked the fans up according to their directions. As the car got warm, I noticed that the fan is pushing the hot air through it. For example, the fan is pulling the hot air from the engine and through the radiator to the front of the car. Is this correct? I thought it was supposed to pull the hot air off of the radiator?

The fans should move the air from the front of the car towards the back.

That is what I though, but the directions on how to hook up the wires say different, unless I F-ed up!

I vaguely recall having a similar issue when I installed my procharger. So perhaps the instructions aren't 100% accurate.

It's wired backwards. Most fans are wired as "pusher fans". To convert to a puller you reverse the polarity (ie wire it opposite). Usually you need to undo the c-clip holding the fan blade to reverse the fan itself too. If the fan is designed as a puller....then it should work following the install directions.

FYI...this is a neat tidbit of info I found out in a non-automotive application. A pusher fan pushes about 30x it's diameter of air. A puller fan of the same diameter only pulls 2x it's diameter worth of air. So, using a pusher fan is about 15x more effective than a puller. Makes you wonder why OEM's rely on puller fans......

Thats not what I was told from the big wigs and be-cool and griffin. They told me that air is like a rope and its always easier and better to pull the air through the radiator rather then pushing it through.

My wires were backwards on mine. The directions weren't correct. Just switch them and you'll be fine.

National Fire Prevention Association. They did research on fans/air volume to clear smoke from buildngs.

Don't have to believe the results.....just throwing it out there as an interesting bit of info I learned concerning fan efficiency. Also, this is relevent to total air volume being pushed/pulled. I'm sure NFPA didn't test the efficiency of this theory when moving air through a radiator/intercooler.

I have heard just about the opposite. I am prety sure it has been proven that a puller fan will be more efficient in an automotive application. The cooling fans are turned off at certain vehicle speeds. Adequate airflow through the radiator occurs with vehicle movement to properly cool the engine coolant without the assistance of the cooling fans. If you had puller fans infront of the radiator, they would be blocking alot of the incoming air. A pusher setup will work, but most only use that setup when they can't fit puller setups with their turbo kits.

YUP! Prochargers directions are wrong!! WTF!! Oh well. I just reversed it and my temps dropped back down to normal.

That happened to me also. It took about 20 minutes before my temps went to the red right.

Just a thought, but there are some on the board who went with a different fan setup after overheating with the Procharger fan. They might of installed it the way the manual states and the wires really needed to be switched and they'd be alright.

Just a thought.

For sure not me. I had to add a 9 inch fan, a tranny cooler with a fan, and finally a fan on the a/c condensor. I wish that would have been my problem.

Thats odd. We have probably close to the same setup and horsepower. Damn thats alot of fans/coolers.
