Default what do yall think about this combo

i wanna build a 383, i was thinkin a scat rotating assembly, AFR 195 heads, CC306 cam with a stealth ram or a holley 750 with a dual plane. i wanna be around 400 rwhp and run on 93. and input will be great
thanks, Shawn

I'd build it about 10-1, use 1 3/4" headers and run a performer RPM intake with a 750 carb, with that cam you should meet your goals. I would run a 5.7 or 6.0 rod in it, upgrade to the arp 2000 bolts, it'll be good if you stick a power adder on it later.

Either way sounds like a good combo.

that sounds like a decent combo and 400rwhp is a good amount of power especially if its not heavy........ my buddy had a 306 in his stock LT1 and it did good but i bet there is a better cam for you and you wont have to give anything up either since your running a stroker..... either way its still a good looking setup that you listed

That is the same set up I want to do on my 92 Camaro but I kinda was looking for alittle over 400 rwhp. scat bottom end sum good v-tech heads with a decent Intake and strong cam! also around 9.5.1 comp ratio.

I would go custom grind. If it is going to be primarily a track car, have thought about useing a solid roller cam?

Depending on the transmission and dyno, I think you may come up a bit shy of 400 rwhp.

My last 383 combo with 10.4:1 compression, Canfield 195 cc heads, a solid Crane Cam under .550 lift, Victor Jr. intake, Holley HP 750 carb, hedman 1-3/4 headers blowing through a full 3" exhaust with Magnaflows going through a 3800 stall 10" converter TH400 made 367 rwhp and ran 11.40s at 115 mph in a 3500 lb '70 Nova. The roller may add some ponies, but I think the solid roller and a single plane intake will be your ticket above the 400 mark.

Good luck!

i have been thinking about a solid roller setup. i was looking at a comp grind. .550 lift with a 268 duration. does that sound like a good cam for a 383?

268 is a little short for a 383, 272/276@0.50 is a good streetable cam in 383, usually good for low 12's high elevens. Desktop Dyno also showed the CC306 as a good cam. I have a HSR that I had on my 413sbc with the CC272/276HR, the Comander 950 was tuned on a camaro 383 with a 272/276 on a 110 he was clocking these times. My SR is for sale, because I was running after market heads with raised runners I had nothing but oil leaks in the back and opted to pull it and put on a motown Single plane and 750 BG Mighty Demon.

I missed the part of Solid Roller, that would make a good street strip cam.

The new 383 I'm installing has the same heads and top end as my old 383 but with a custom spec solid roller with a tad above .600 lift and above 250 split duration. The same engine build through a glide with a 4500 stall converter and a 9" made 415 rwhp, and ran 10.72 at 123 mph in a 3300 lb car.

I'd consider calling your cam company of choice and discuss your combo as well as gearing, trans and converter (if an auto) and car weight.

Looking back at your notes through this topic you dont really mention what your overall goals with this is, Stick/Auto/Gears play an important role in your final cam choice. If this going to be a daily driver or do you want something that is radical and you plan on taking it to the dragstrip frequently. Either the CC306 or CC272/276HR will be very streetable, I would also supect the 268 would be very streetable as well. Another cam worth mentioning is the Crower Hydraulic Roller 00471. I am using this cam in my 427sbc with 10.5CR, Vic Jr Heads, and a Dart single plane, BG 750 Mighty Demon behind a 700R4 trans and 2500 TCI stall, I am putting down 425rwhp and 450rwtq, The heads are right out of the box with no addtional porting. The cam sounds pretty radical, All of this is in my 67C10 that I dont race and just use it for cruise nights and making dump runs and sporadic runs to Home Depot (it is still a truck).
