Default JEEP grand chero ls1 swap?

Doin a search of the topic only showed a couple people warped like me WANTING to do one. Has anyone actually done it in a 93-98 grand cherokee? I'm debating Between goin with the 5.9 or doin an ls1 swap.

5.9 is easy but limited on future mods and more expensive mods.

I could find a chero with blown engine for around 5-800 bucks ls1 with 4x4 4l60e for around 3k then spend around 250 on cooling plus an extra 2k for install/headers/whatever

What would yall do?

I had a 4.0L GC that was built up for wheeling. I thought of doing a conversion and a V8 would fit no problem (since they came with V8)

If I were to do it, I'd use a 4.8L or 5.3L with a 4L60e with the transfer case. Get it all as a package unit. the 4.8L would be a little cheaper. The 5.3L would be my choice if I were to do it. If you need more power, bore it out to a 5.7L. But it will be plenty of power to break the stock axles

I agree. Try to get a complete wrecked 4x4 5.3 truck or SUV. The little parts you could reuse will nickle and dime you to death if you buy them seperate.

Sounds like a cool idea to me!

Or just put the 5.3 in an S10 blazer. I would think it would be a little easier w/out the cross breeding thing.

Is this going to be a DD Truck?are you trying to go wheeling? I had a 98 before as well, The way gas and **** is now though id make it strictly 2wd and lose the whole 4wd system., If you get one withe harness and fusebox, Its a very fast simple hook up. Youd have to do some serious splicing though to get the rest of luxuries to work, but nothing 1 man cant do with the right diagrams.

It will be my DD and never offroaded. I have a ****** on 1 tons with 36" double beadlocked for that

The "luxuries" I'd like to keep are basically them all. The only hesitation I have in going 2wd is the winters around here can be kinda rough. I had thought about getting the motor/ecu/harness only and buying the adaptor from AA that lets you use either a th350,th400 or 700r4 and of course I could already use a 4l60e 4x4 either of these should easily mount up to a np231/242 (standard jeep t case)
