Simple loaded question here haha swapping an ls1 into a 2wd sonoma dont have a trans yet this will be a daily driver/weekend warrior i would like it to go as fast as possible in a straight line! 1 brother says go 6 speed other says auto. I did some research and it seems that the auto is better for track use because of accuracy. then others will argue gas mileage and breaking things with manual. so please voice your opions or better yet facts thanks!

It all depends on what you really want. I personally would never own a muscle car unless it only came with an automatic. I'm guessing that you are more interested in 1/4 mile racing. If that's the case, I would get an automatic. And yes, I do believe that the M6 offers better gas mileage than the A4 (at least mines does anyway), but it is also tougher on the rear end. I'm sure that others will chime in with their opinions.

Like mentioned already, if you are wanting 1/4 mile instead of road racing, get an A4 with a stall...its more consistent and can keep up with a similarly modded M6. I have an A4 (no stall yet) and get a lot of crap from guys when they here its an auto, but they shut their mouth when they can not beat it..even though they have a "stick"...
Now if you are doing road racing, definitely go with a manual.

girls like sticks.
Haha, all kidding aside... its whatever you prefer to drive. Autos arent THAT much faster... Maunals dont save THAT much more gas. Get what you enjoy driving. If its going to be a DD, and you do alot of traffic... might want to think about the auto.
Personally i dont see the point in a muscle car thats auto. I know it has its place, but i enjoy driving stick SO much more. I guess i get ADD in the car. :bored:

m6 is way more fun...but stick can beat a high stalled auto with a shift kit

Ahhh doubt that.
I've had two of both. Stalled A4 for track or M6 for street.

There fixed it for ya.
I always prefer a stick, except if it's a purpose-built strip car then I would go with an auto for consistency. Not to say you can't make a stick car run good times though. There are plenty of LSX M6 cars in the 9s and some even in the 8s. Comes down to personal preference mostly.

Fastest straight line racing = auto with a stall.

Well the 4L60E is the least expensive way to go. It's also more efficient then a 4L80E so it'll let more HP pass to the wheels. It also weighs less then a 4L80E. Sounds like a nobrainer right?
Well it's not. The 4L80E when properly built is nearly unbreakable. You could have a 500 rwhp NA car and spray a 200 shot on top of that and the 4L80E will laugh and say "Is that all you got?" The 4L60E on the other hand will puke out parts and say "Were you F'N serious?".
So I guess it depends on your ultimate HP goals. Personally, I say if it's under 500 rwhp then go with a well built 4L60E but over 500 rwhp and I would go either 4L80E or TH400.
Good luck.

Try a search. You'll find 90,000,000,000 threads that dicuss this same question, and they all end the same....in a flamefest.
I'll give you the abriged summary. Neither trans is better, it all comes down to personal preferance....but IMO, A4>M6 - any day, any car. :P
