Default 04/05/06 Gto T56

Been looking for this for a little bit over the past couple days. I know the 04's have the MN12 gearing, and saw one post through out my searching that said the 05/06's had the same gearing, but nothing other than that one post. I was wondering if there are any differences between the 04's and the 05/06's T56's and would an 05/06 T56 be able to swap right over to a Fbody.

thanks in advance

I know you cant swap them right over without changing somthing? dont remember what it was, input shaft length, diff maybe? someone else will chime in and tell you prob. Other than that I know the LS2 bellhousing will bolt right up to an LS1 but your LS1 starter wont work anymore youll have to get one off a GTO.

Trans and bellhousing fits fine, only difference is the bellhousing from GTOs have a smaller opening for the starter and a 98-99 (and I'd assume 00-2002) won't fit. You'll have to find a GTO starter.

I believe the 04-06 gto t56 internals are all the same with their main differences from the F-body being different gearing and the addition of triple cone blocker rings.

So if the gears and sycronizers are different just how much could be the same

I've got an MN12 trans in my car and it fit perfect with the LS1 bellhousing (even bought a used one because I sold mine with my T56). The only thing you have to swap is the blocking plate and rear offset lever so you can use an Fbody shifter because the shifter on the GTO sits farther up on the transmission. Do a search for Six Speeds Inc posts regarding this and you'll find all the info you need about the swap. It's very simple. Or give Amber a call at Six Speeds Inc.

I never replaced the started on mine until after the GTO trans was already in and working, and that's because the starter was shot, not because it didn't work with it.

What is this blocking Plate you speak of? I just swapped the offset lever
and the sensors.
Did I miss something?

I have a T56 (MN12) from a 2004 GTO, with bellhousing. The bellhousing and tranny fit perfectly, with the exception of the starter. The starter area in the bellhousing was smaller than my starter by about a half inch. I had to pull the tranny and put in an LS1 bellhousing from a 99 SS. I'd have just bought a GTO starter, but they were impossible to get a hold of in my area, not withstanding the outrageous ($475 dealer quote, $380 other places) pricing.

I had to swap over the offset lever which I purchased from Six Speeds Inc, but kept the same sensors the GTO had in it. My car is a swap car, but everything works (Reverse lockout etc) except for CAGS which I did not plug in.

The GTO uses a Mitsubishi starter. They are probably the best starters on the market. Summit sells them as a high output starter. I got one from my local junkyard for $30.

Go on www.car-part.com and search for a GTO starter. There are gobs of them. No bellhousings though unless you want to pay $250.

Did you ever get this figured out? I might have a line on a gto t56.
