Avoid the b&m for the gto...they are prone to breaking--i had one for about a week before taking it out as it felt worse than the stock shifter,,,If you want a complete shifter the GMM ripshift is the best one out there..

If you want a replacement handle the LSS handle from afterthoughts auto is a great upgrade to your stock shifter (which isnt that bad) and gets rid of the sloppy feeling bushing in the stock handle. Its only like 60.00 too

ok thanks. does just upgrading the handle make a difference?

and what about the hurst?

that ripshift is expensive once you get the 2 piece street handle.

The LSS makes a world of a difference and at a good price and easy install.
Ive no experience with the hurst and was planning on getting one but they kept pushing the release date back so i never did. Also installing the full shifter on the GTO isnt very easy thats why i ended up putting my stock one back in with the LSS.

ook that handle is starting to sound pretty good now!
haha i might do that for a little while and upgrade the shifter later...whats the diff in the race and street GMM besides the two peice handle? does the race version really make that much noise?

It shortens the height of the stick and eliminates the sloppy rubber in the stock handle.
The only diff between the street and race i believe is the 2 piece handle.

My dad put a B&M Ripper in his GTO and it feels horrible. Myself, my dad, and my brother all hate it. The only reason he swapped out the stocker was because his hand would hit the radio on shifts, but if he had it to do over again, he'd go a different route. It's EXTREMELY notchy (far worse than any other shifter I've ever driven, stock or aftermarket).

GMM Ripshift - Available from SpeedInc.
Billet Products Australia Pro Series - Available from Rally Sport Direct

Both are good products. The GMM is similar to a Pro 5.0 design, while the Billet Products part is a "beefed up" version of the stock design. Avoid the B&M GTO shifter; they are known to break.

I had a Hurst in my 06. It was so freaking awful that I pulled it out for a stocker with an LSS. If I hadn't totalled my car, I would've thrown a GMM Street with the LSS on it, or a GMM Race modded to fit the Hurst handle and ****. Trust me, GMM is the way to go for GTOs. That remote shifter design is just garbage.

The shifter is by far the worst thing on a GTO. I'm glad to hear some opinions on the different ones out there. I need one pretty bad. I have been considering the Hurst, but now I know not to. I think I'll bite the bullet and pay for the GMG and be done with it.

On a side note, does anyone know if a F-Body shifter would work on a GTO trans if you changed the bucket on the shift shaft to the F-Body style as well? I understand a redesigned/bent stick would also be required to get the handle back far enough.

Thanks,
cole
