Default can i swap this??

i have a 2000 camaro z-28. its an a-4 with 163,xxx miles on it. has 273 gears. can i just swap the posi unit and the gears out of a stock 342 rear end? does it bein a 3 or 4 series change that? would i need to swap anything else b/c of the different gears?

As long as it's a 28 spline 7.5/7.625 posi and gear set it can be done.
You're still going to need to set up the ring and pinion though, as long as you take the gears from one rear and put them in another, it's going to be the same as installing new gears, except for, I guess, the price.

eventhough i have 273??? i thought something was a different size? i paid 80$ for a 50k mile posi with 342 gears. pretty much an entire rearend from the axle to the housing to the abs sensor. but i think i'm just gonna swap the gears/posi unit.

Why? if you have the whole assembled rear and it's within the same year range with all the right sensors I would swap the whole thing. It's way easier to swap the whole rear than it is to change the ring and pinion.
If you swap the gears and posi into the other rear you're going to need an install kit and new bearings, AND experience setting up rears.
I have set up several rears and I'd still rather swap the whole thing.

And yes your 2.73 posi is on a different series carrier but it doesn't matter because you are saying you have the posi that came with the 3.42's.
