I installed a spec clutch this weekend and the peddle is to the floor, I installed the shim the second time I removed the transmission to fix the peddle problem but it is still there on the floor. I did break my slave cylinder and had to replace it the 2nd time I removed the transmission. The slave came from Advanced auto, is this maybe the problem this time? Will an adjustable master cylinder bring the car back where it should be? When I rev the engine in first gear with the clutch pressed in it does move forward. and it is hard to get in gear at high rpm's. I almost think I did not bleed the slave enough? I dont know. Please help guys.

Bleed the slave cylinder a LOT. Spend an hour or more doing it to make sure you get as much air out as possible. You might also want to look into an adjustable master cylinder if the problem persists. SPEC-01 will probably respond since that is Jeremy, the man to talk to over at Spec.

Okay I will bleed it but what are my options if that doesnt do the trick?

Mine was the same way with the stock clutch, I bleed and bleed under the car and the pedal kept sticking, then I finally had to use a Mity Vac to get the rest of the air out of the system and it worked like a charm. Id say if you do all that and still no luck, and you know everything is installed properly and torqued to spec, then you might have to end up getting the adjustable master.

Well I bleed the slave... The clutch feels stiff but still hard to get in gear in reverse and first at idle.and when in 1st if I rev to about 4k rpm's it pulls forward, Its a new Spec clutch and new slave. When I drive I cant shift at high rpms around 4k.. Any ideas????

Assuming that this is in a F-body...did you do the drill mod? If not that may help with the higher RPM shifts. What flywheel is being used? If it was resurfaced, how much was taken off of the flywheel? Let me know and I will be happy to assist you. Thanks!

I would say keep bleedin' the slave. I had problems just like that and we just kept bleedin' it. It doesn't seem like it would take that much but you gotta bleed the **** out of it.

i was in the same boat as you with a spec 3 clutch and no amount of bleeding helped, changed clutch manufactors and it worked fine.

Yeah it is a spec flywheel, I got the whole deal shipped together from spec. I have not done the drill mod. I put the Shim on the slave and it seemed to make it worse. When I first did the clutch I didn't install the shim. I did notice it was harder to get in reverse and 1st after putting on the shim. It just release very close to the floor. It is like in need more peddle to push down.

I installed a SPEC stg 2 a couple days ago and I must say I was starting to worry when we had been bleeding the clutch for a good 30 min with no improvement. But it did finally build pressure. Just lay in there and push and pull back and fourth with your hand with the bleeder closed, open it for a few sec, and close it and repeat at least 30-40 times. Then you should start to see a stiffer pedal, at this point, sit in the car and pump the crap out of that thing each time. Don't give up! Mine released really close to the floor at first but now its almost up to the mid point. I installed the shim btw.

That's a pain in the *** for sure. It just needs to be bled, get a mighty vac and suck them bubbles out.

well ive taken mine up to 20? on old and new master sooo, today im going to try both...brake style bleed for an hour than ill use the mity for an hour or so. ill let you kno

I know this may sound like a strange question...but do you know the part number of the slave-cylinder that you bought? I am wondering if there may be an issue of depth with the slave. There are several units available thru GM...and it could be possible that you received the incorrect slave. The thing that is most interesting is that the addition of the shim seemed to make the issue worse (as I read it in your above explanation). Very strange. If you want to, pull the kit and provide me with some measurements (stack height, disc thickness, etc...) and I will be happy to assist further. Thanks!

Im useing the Spec flywheel that came as a package. as for the Slave it is one that I got from Advanced auto.

Did you by chance compare the stock bearing/slave cylinder to the Advanced part? It is possible that the bearing/slave assembly you were provided is incorrect...but without a direct comparison or pictures there is no way for me to know. Can you compare the parts and take a few snap shots and email them to me?
