Generation IV Internal Engine - Picking up an L92 with possible damage...

I have a chance to get a complete 6.2 L92 long block, from TB to pan with coils and all, even some wiring, straight out of the truck. The word is it had a valve keeper come loose and made some bad noises.. I can get it for 1000 dollars, and it has VERY low miles, still looks like it's a new crate engine. The problem is the guy wont really let me tear into it to check out what happened. i can look into spark plug holes and exhaust ports I guess, might be able to talk him into taking the valve covers off... Should I buy it? Im worried about the block being garbage. A head I can replace same with a piston... but a sleeve would make it not such a good deal.. opinions? How much aprox. is a sleeve to have installed?
Thanks
Chris

GM does sell blocks that dont pass their inspection. Not saying there is anything wrong with those blocks, half price is an awesome deal, but GM does sell blocks that do require maching to correct certain imperfections that they (GM) does not do. Just an FYI and something to think about and questions to ask when buying parts.

well I bought the engine. Piston is wasted, cylinder walls are A-ok, the intake valve seat took a bash when the head of the valve rammed into it. I may have to get the seat replaced. Engine looks like it has about 50 miles on it but who knows. Thats about it, I was gonna upgrade pistons and valves anyway so overall im happy. $1000 for a 100% complete L92... Probably going to hone it, put in some forged flattops and some nice rods, fix the head (whatever that will require) and have them milled for a little more comp. Trying for about 11:1 with a cam in the 240's. Going into a 68 Camaro..
