383 stroker
So what would you do if going with a 383 stroker, buy one already built, or have one built from your block? Im in NNJ and not sure if I should I have mine built and where do I go? Or should I buy one built already.

I am in the same boat. I want to be able to say that I built my own engine and have the fun of doing it. But after parts and machine work it is almost the same price to have it built by a shop.

As far as cost effectiveness is concerned, you could save a few hundred dollars by building the engine yourself or having a local shop do it. BUT, do you trust that local shop? How many of the Gen3/4 motors have they built? Do they specialize only in these late model engines??
Texas Speed does all of the above! We specialize in these engines/vehicles and build as many of these vehicles as anyone else in the country! Shoot me a PM with your needs and goals and we can talk about which short-block would work best for you!

Yep as stated above you want someone with experience. We dont do 383's I'll come out and say that right now. In order to properly build and engine you need to follow all the steps and when you do that the money for a 383 is so close to a 408 that we dont feel it's worth a customers money. Like TSP said they can help you with that if your set on the 383.
BUT if you want to look at the money and do the best you can for it I offer a very stout 408 using Callies crank and rods and Wiseco pistons. No steps left untaken, the end result is a dependable stout 408 that will handle what ever you dish out. From a mild street setup to a carbed nittous huffing beast (current engine for a customer) we can build your dream engine.
Our Callies 408 is $4292 plus freight ($4042 for Eagle ), uses ARP through out and ACL race bearings, Clevite or Hell fire rings or in the above application GFX rings for the custom Wiseco piston that was created for use with L92 heads. This car will be spraying a 3 stage Direct Port.

I dont agree with this at all. When all was said and done, my 384 with an eagle assembly, Mahle pistons with ARP through out, machine work AND brand new TSP terminator heads cost me barely $4k. So you consider $1500+ difference "close" ? I mean you're obviously going to need a good set of heads right? Then, add in the cost of the LS2 block if wanting to keep the weight off the nose and you now have a $2,500 difference.

I see you have TTP installed stuff... if you are reusing that, then it cuts down on the price significantly, plus you have most of the boltons. Though, I'm not sure you're going to see much gain in horsepower with that. Most 383s don't really run away from 346s, but do have some additional torque.
If you are going with new parts, a complete longblock, parts wise, is going to cost you somewhere around 7k for a lower end motor and 9k for a top spec motor (or even more if you aren't careful). That's without installation or tuning.
If you just want a shortblock, yeah $3500 to realistically $4200 or so for the motor plus at least $1500 (but more like $2500) for the installation and $500-700 for the tuning need to be factored in. So, budget around $6k on the lowend and $8000 on the high end using your current top end parts. Once you start to see all the costs that go in, you get nickeled and dimed to death.

No, I'm not comparing anything. I'm stating that I don't agree with what you said. I didn't buy my motor, I built it. Nothing cheap about the build. It's called being smart and shopping around for the best prices, not the cheapest material
