Questions 5.3 w/ MS3 Cam
bought the 5.3 have it sitting next to me on the stand... now i have the victor jr. carb set-up from edelbrock, and 1 7/8 headers, now... am i going to be able to spin this engine high enough to get all the power out of the MS3 i want? i'm thinking im going to need to be able to go to 7200 maybe 7400
5.3 is rated like 285-295fwhp, im looking for like 380-430fwhp... if you think it'll be more I really like more haha
car is a manual, 3.73 gear, ~3300lbs
heads are already prepped for the cam with bigger springs thick wall pushrods, even bought the checker thingy-mah-do to make sure i have perfect geometry haha
the 5.3 is stock internals, will be daily driven, but not dd to 7 grand, you know...
trying to think what else to tell you guys...
oh yeah, so should i go to ls7 lifters, make sure i dont collapse one, or do you think the stock ones will hold, i really dont think they will???

You are going to have to turn some very high RPMs with the MS3 and a lil 5.3 motor. Most people spin to about 7000~7200 with the 5.7 motor. You will probly have to spin it to 7400~7600 RPMs and the stock bottom probly won't hold up that high. I would also stick with 1-5/8 primary headeers to. Most people don't go with the 1-7/8 unless they are huffing a lot of N2O or a lot of boost on the 5.7s.

I would reccomend 1 3/4 headers for the best N/A performance out of that combo.
As for the lifters, LS1, LS2, and LS7 lifters are actually all the same. If your factory lifters have a lot of mileage on them, then I would change them, but otherwise you will just be ordering the same part you already have.
If you want more power, and aren't afraid of flycutting the pistons, the MS4 will give you more.

Call a reputable vendor and have them recommend a cam that's sized properly for the engine. Of the three mentioned so far, the F13 is the best choice; both the MS3 and MS4 are "too big" for your engine.
