Default New 4.10s quiet under load but loud on decell, why?

My buddy and I put a new set of motive 4.10s in my car. They are quiet while under a load like driving up a hill but when I push the clutch in to slow down they whine pretty loud. We had the pattern good and everything. We ended up with a .035 pinon shim and set the backlash to .008. It didn't seem loud at all when we got done with it but since the install I have put about 150 miles on it with no launches or anything, easy driving. What is the common problem that will make them whine while coasting?

You have to check the pattern on both sides of the teeth. It has a different contact patch than for acceleration.

well I was just reading that the motives I bought are the noisey set So that sucks. I have a good used set of GM 4.10s so maybe I would be better off installing them

Under decell means the pinion is shimmed to deep, recheck it.
