See sig for times with my 4:10's. Run out of gear fast for the track, but are great. I have not got my shift points set right yet, but over time I will. You need suspension components to hook at the track. I have Hals front and back with front drag springs. The gears are great on the street. I got my gears for track purpose only. If I was going to be doing alot of street driving and frequent the track ever now and then, then I would go with 3:73's. It is an all around gear for track and street. Good luck.

Not enough, you'll still be slow :p I'm just jealous that your 325RWHP car will outrun my 410RWHP "dyno queen"

The convertor I am running with 4:10's gears is a Yank 4200. When I had the 3:73's I had a vig. 3200 which is a good combination. Got low 1.6's in good weather and track conditions with Nitto's drag radials.

Unless you spend all day at the track, I would stick with the 3:73. 4:10 is way too much for street and unnecessary, unless you like paying up the wazzoo for gas and tires every month. As Colonel had recommended to me and I did it get a SSY 3500 with high STR, you'll be better off on the street. I just got mine and I'll be trying it at the track soon with ET's.

I've got 4.10's in my 98 SS M6. I really like them, car launches really hard. I put 2 or 3 cars on another SS with the stock 3.42's. I drive mine daily and it runs about 2200 - 2400 on the highway. I really like them on the street. I do however think they would be a bit too low for an A4.

Come on now ...

I had stock 3:42's and got 24mpg highway, 18 city .... with the 4.10s I get 23mpg highway and 18 city. As for the tires, where did you come up with that? Any f-bod can smoke the tires regardless of gearing ...
Personally, I find it just as easy to launch with the 4.10's as I did with the 3.42's. I do agree however, that they might be alittle much for the street. Unfortunately, in an M6, they make the "magical third gear" into the "magical fourth gear" ... so you have to wait 10 - 15 mph more for that big punch in power that your used to getting in third gear. On an auto car I would definately put in the 3.73's, as I did in my old auto LT1. Cruising around 70mph had me around 2300 rpms, which allowed for decent gas milage. 4.10s will bring that up to around 25-2600rpms, which will hurt the mpg a decent amount. M6 I still say 3.73's/4.10s are great all around gears.

UHH, Phantom You have M6, he has A4. What was your highway speed?(55). LOL.
You even admited yourself that 3:73's are better and more reasonnable.
By the way do u know what is the final drive ratio for an M6 compared to an A4? NO! I didn't think so. Otherwise what I said would make perfect sense to you. :p

thanks guys i don't drive the car much (550 miles in the last 5 months)it's slowly becoming a race car so i guess the 4:10's will be best for know since it see's very little street driving.thanks again

I completely understand that I have an M6 doof. I have had an A4 however. And as I stated, for the A4 I would go with the 3.73's. The only part of what you were saying that I disagreed with were the tire spinning and gas milage ones.

Next, if I were you, I would put some more research into your obviously unknowledgable 'calculations'. The 4th gear drive ratio of an A4 is 0.70 ... which, when combined with 3.73 gearing, puts 67mph at exactly 2300rpms, and 70 mph at exactly 2400 rpms. If he got 4.10's, 70 mph would be right around 2600 rpms. So really don't understand where your getting 55 mph as the speed I was driving at that RPM.

So let me make this easy for you...

In an A4 with 3.73's ...

RPM ------- Speed

1900 ------ 56 mph
2100 ------ 61 mph
2300 ------ 67 mph
2500 ------ 73 mph
2700 ------ 79 mph

In an A4 with 4.10's ...

1900 ------ 51 mph
2100 ------ 56 mph
2300 ------ 61 mph
2500 ------ 66 mph
2700 ------ 72 mph

In an M6 with 3.73's ...

1300 ------ 53 mph
1500 ------ 61 mph
1700 ------ 70 mph
1900 ------ 78 mph
2100 ------ 86 mph

In an M6 with 4.10's ...

1500 ------ 56 mph
1700 ------ 63 mph
1900 ------ 71 mph
2100 ------ 78 mph

And if you had spent alittle more time with the hooked on phonics, you would've noticed that I was agreeing with you about the gearing. ...

....I do agree however, that they (4.10's) might be alittle much for the street....On an auto car I would definately put in the 3.73's, as I did in my old auto LT1. Cruising around 70mph had me around 2300 rpms, which allowed for decent gas milage....
So it seems that everything I said in my first post was dead on ... and that I do understand drive ratios just as well, if not better, then you do. Btw, you answered your own question incorrectly, that takes skill ... :p

I was just joking with the 55 bit therefore LOL.
Final drive ratio in 6th is lower than 4th in A4 (LIKE you've shown in your numbers).
Your calculator is smoking by the way LOL.
Also, it is good to put # on paper, but did you take tire diameter into consideration?
If you didn't then your calculations are innacurate and those numbers would vary from car to car depending on their car's tire height.
No one knows everything in life and we just voice opinions and should not attack each other. UNless it's BULLIT of course. LOL

Those calculations are based on stock tire diameter ...
Obviously, if you were to change the tire sizes, you would be effectivly changing the gear ratio, but thats a given.

And I agree that we should only attack bullitt. (check out the new sig ...)

Have 4.10's in my M6 and like them but I think I would want 3.73's in an A4.
