I just had a plate installed on my A4 ls1, along with a new tranny. Now when my converter locks up the rpms surge bad. About 400 rpms up and down. Has anybody else had this problem when you installed a plate. Maybe a misfire of some sort caused by the plate? Thanks!

Adding a plate should not cause this issue. Check for a vacumme leak.

I was thinking vacumme leak also, but wouldn't it cause the rpms to surge at all times? Could the WOT switch maybe cause this somehow? Ill check over everything and see.

Ohh sorry I did not read it correctly. Ok so it only surges when you are ripping on it and the convertor locks up?

Check the FPSS... Also if you have a wot switch chack and make sure its making full contact 100 percent of the time when at wot.

No. I haven't sprayed the car yet. I have to install my timing tuner. Just regular driving when the converter locks with my foot on the gas it will surge. If I take my foot off it will quit. Not WOT, just regular driving.

I do not have my FPSS hooked yet either.

I would look at the transmission as the problem, not the nitrous. Did they use the old converter? Did you change the stall or the rear gearing?

I believe it's might be your converter.

I have a Vig 3600. Probably only has about 5k miles on it, if that. he said he was going to clean it all out. No stall change and no gearing change.

Is there any way to check the converter?

Honestly I don't know. Give Vigilante a call. I'm sure they have a way (other than on a dyno) to test it. Forgot to ask above, Have you checked your transmission fluid level?

No I haven't. The tranny shifts fine. Goes into gear quick. So I really don't think it would be the tranny but possibly the converter. That was actually another thing I thought of. I just hope thats not it.

Sounds like there is a issue with the lock up of the converter then.

I believe your right. I wonder if the initial problem was a bad transmission due to super heating from the higher stall converter. Do you run a cooler on the transmission? With a converter that big it's a must. If the converter was not sent back to Vig for a rebuild, this is more than likely your problem.

I do run a cooler. The tranny was not from over heating. I had a Fuddle converter blow up in my old tranny. Had everything repaired and put the new Vig in then. Why would the Vig need rebuilt already? Like I said it only has like 5k miles on it.

I just ASSumed the trans was rebuilt and they re-used the converter. That was my mistake. Now has this converter and transmission been together since the build and now it's suddenly giving you a problem?

I am using the same Vig converter that was in the old repaired tranny. He took the vig that has very low miles on it, cleaned it out and put it in the new built tranny. I had no problems like this at all before he "cleaned" it out and put in the built trans.

I think you are confused. Here...

I had a Fuddle converther with the stock trans. Fuddle converter blew up in the trans. I then had the stock trans repaired at which time I put in the Vig.

Ok, stock trans was slipping. So, I had a built trans put in using the same Vig converter.

With the stock trans I had no problems of the surging i am having now. now with the built trans I am having the surging problems

OK got it. Has the problem been since the built transmission was installed? Or was it OK for a while and now the issue is starting?
When you checked the fluid was it red? Is there any chance that the fluid is burned?

Its been doing it ever since the tranny was installed. The fluid looks good.

It only does it at low lock-up speeds. If I am on the highway and its locked it won't do it. If I am going 35-40 with my foot on the gas it will do it. If I take my foot off the gas it stops.

I still think the converter is the issue. Before it gets to late, give Vigilante a call and see what they say.

No not yet. I am installing a timing tuner then going to see about the converter. I haven't driven the car in a few days.
