Default Anyone heard of a shatter plate?

I was talking to my buddy's dad yesterday who is really into the car scene and he asked me if i was going to get a shatter plate. I had never heard of this before. He explained that it is basically a steel plate that goes over the transmission and protects the driver from any gears shooting out of the tranny and through the floor. He told me some drivers have lost limbs from this happening. Anyone heard of this, and are they available for F-bodies?

Yeah, they make scatter-shields (bell-housing) for manual cars (they're made of steel instead of weak, brittle aluminum), and they also make safety "blankets" for the transmissions (basically, try to contain everything in case of a BIG BOOM ).

Yup, clutches can come apart, and take you off at about the ankles. The scattersheild bells, and the blankets help alot for the times when you grenade a clutch, or trans.

Some race sanctioning bodies (BOTH drag AND road race) require these depending on; class, power levels, e.t.s, etc.
