Default headers question

on pacesetter's website they say their mid length headers are 50 street legal. can anyone confirm or deny this for cali? thanks

What's the CARB EO number on those headers so I can put that on my Jet Hots?

Any modification that moves the cats from its stock possition is illegal. Now you could pass the sniffer but not the visual

If its 50 states legal, Im pretty sure the 51st state is California. Almost everything is illegal in Ca.

yeah but with stock air box lid that takes up a lot of room in the engine compartment might cover them up, just a little though...

hes not ... technically any modification on your car is illegal. Im telling you CA sucks when it comes to these things

HA! but Im running LT headers with no cats! wat now!

For the headers he's looking at, he'd pass the visual. They are 50 state smog legal and they retain the stock cat location.

they let these 5mpg suv's and 4 foot lifted trucks flood the streets but its illegal for us to put on headers.

It is not incorrect. The carb eo that is given when you buy either shorty headers means that the stock position of the catylitic converter has NOT changed and therefore would pass visuals. That is why CARB EO are not given to LT headers. If the smog station sees any aftermarket modifications under your hood, the CARB EO number is what they are going to ask you for.

C'mon Vic, in one quote you say "it will fail the visual" and in another you say "they'll ask for the CARB EO #" which states its a legal header, meaning it won't fail the visual.

Did I miss something?

Here's a quote from arb's website, maybe this will help out:

Exempted parts are add-on or modified parts that have undergone an ARB engineering evaluation. If the part or modification is shown to not increase vehicle emissions, it is granted an exemption to emission control system anti-tampering laws. This exemption is called an Executive Order (EO) and allows the modification to be installed on specific emission controlled vehicles. Every Executive Order part or modification has an assigned number that can be verified by Smog Check stations, BAR Referee stations, or by the ARB.

If you're referring to the part the OP asked about, that's not right. The info I provided is directly related to the part the OP questioned about. Not speculation, but fact.

Not trying to be a dick, but it looks like you have the wrong info. This leads to much mis-information on this topic.

Bottom line: If you have a CARB EO number for your smog-legal header, you will pass.

According to Pacesetter's website, all headers indicated as 50-state smog legal are so under EO #: D-439-6.

so then even if the cats are moved, as long as it has an EO number it bypasses the fact the cats are not in the stock location and makes it legal?
