is this PAC unit right for me? i have a sony headunit with IR remotes. is the PAC SWI-X the right unit for getting everything talking? thanks in advance.

Yes. But see if your particular Sony unit has a small plug in the back of it for a wired remote. Might be labeled "W/R" or something similar. You can then use the PAC SWI-PS for better control.
