Schrader Valve?

Schrader Valve? Is this valve in the very back of the LT1 engines? I think it is. I'm just asking because do you really need to depressurize the fuel system this way when replacing the fuel filter? Or can you just remove the gas cap and then unscrew the fuel filter and try to catch as much gasoline with towels? Thanks.

Honestly, I've done it both ways.
Purged it on my buddies T/A, little gas came out
DIdnt purge it when I did filter on my aunts van, and gf's V6 camaro (bad locations) And not really much more fuel came out.
Simple deal, just take off gas cap, jack up the left rear, unscrew one side, let gas leak out, unclip the other, then repeat backwards. I let it finish draining but if you really wanna save gas just take it out and put it in quick
I had about 3-4 beach towels on top of eachother to soak up the gas, just dont leave them in the garage like I did or it will stink! lol

Yea, I don't think it would be too hard to get a gauge on either, problem is i don't have one and don't wanna spend the $49.95 to get one. The hard thing to on mine would be to try to bleed it using a screwdriver, doing that without making a mess mind you. lol.

As long as you haven't primed the fuel system there won't be that much pressure in there. In other words, once you shut the car off, don't turn the key back to the on position. And make sure you have a drain pan under the filter when you unhook it, even without any pressure in there a lot of fuel will still come out.
If you do want to re-use it, just make sure you use a very clean drain pan, and try not to let any crud get in it after you drain it out.
