Default Tr6 or Tr7 on N20

Read through all the FAQ info and also alot of post, some say Tr6 others Tr7. Have 2 cars 1 LS2 402 going to spray 200, car 2 is a 347 going to spray 150/200 both are forged motors, Just stuck on which way to go, both are street driven pump gas motors the 402 w/ a standalone for spray, the 347 is pump with c12 or c16 mixe when spraying. I just need an expert deciding factor, I know it will be mixed, but worth a try. Basicly looking for guys with similur setups.

From what I have seen, the majority of people run TR6's. Check this thread out and read how many people run em.

I have had trouble over 175shot with the TR6. Believe me I would rather be safe than sorry, (Having been sorry) I would recomend 7's over 175 shot.

Agreed. Any real nitrous tuner will or should know that the extended tip tr6 is not the best spray plug. Where as the tr7 moves to a non protruding tipped plug. Some claim they have idle problems with the tr7 and street miles, my self, we haven't had any issues. Once i turned a set of tr6 into blow torches and burned down my motor, well no more tr6s in this camp.

Thanx guys, I am sticking with the Tr6 up to 150, going to SpeedInc this week to get it tuned. I will order a set of Tr7s for when I bump up to the 200 shot.

The 7 would be better for the 200. However I have tuned many of cars with a TR6 ion a 200 shot. It really comes down to having your tune correct... The 7s will be more forgiving...

yea i did forget to add that for the hits upto about a 150 are fine using the tr6, imo, as long as tune is on. My melt down and torch tips happened at 2xx level. Still for me though, tr7s.

Robert. Correct me if I am wrong but your tune was out in left field as well. way to much timming on a hot plug with only 93 octain right?

I have tuned a car for a 300 shot on a TR6 and that car has been running around for 3 years now with the same set up. I would not ever suggest this but he was demanding. He runs C-16 in the dedicated and real concertative on the timming. I warned him when we tuned it he was playing with fire at that point ut I guess he is one of the lucky ones..

true on timing (can't recall gas), but I still stand by the fact that an extended tip plug is not the best choice, esp when going bigger. I was only at 26° and it may have survived would I have had a colder and a recessed style tipped plug. Had been running the tr6 for some time with the big hits, but once the timing got skewed, well the rest is history. One thing gets out of whack with the extended tips and we have less of a safety margin compared to the a dedicated style nitrous plug, but we have comprimises for the street/strip cars and the tr6 can be fine for smaller hits; just no longer my choice.

I aggree that the TR6 is not the best choice.. Wow did I say that right I agree with you on something...lol

However 26 degrees on a 285 shot is possible suicide on a number 6 or 7 plug anyways..

Hehehe, yea suicide... How often do you see idle problems with a tr7? Seems that some complain of this, and some have no problem. myself, they work great for street duty.

Not every car acts the same. I am thinking this may be dependent on where the base tune is to start with. I have had cars not like to idle good after putting a set of TR6 plugs in it as well. 7s being allitle colder that idle change would probley be more noticable.

Call me crazy but in my personal cars I have always felt like it seem to run better after blasting it once on the juice. Thats probley just in my head though.lol

Would there be any negative effects to running a TR7 in a 125-150 shot car that is on 100 octane when spraying? I'm stock bottom end, and like to stay on the safe side of things.

The plug is colder than needed but you should be fine.

I don't know, but you may be right about running better after a shot of nitrous. Bought one of your kits, gave the car a few blasts at the track (big smile on my face) and take the car home. A few weeks later and after adjusting the 685 trying not to spray through the shifts (2-3 didn't care for that) I make a few passes NA to see where the car stands ET wise. The thing runs almost 2 tenths quicker for no reason. DA about the same, and no other changes to the car. I'm still trying to figure out why the 2 tenths improvement.
Sorry if I side tracked this thread.

Maybe you plate set-up for the car tweaked the converter (in a good way) with the added HP. LOL
PS, years ago I'm watching a friend of mine slowly pouring a good portion of the Coke he was drinking down a carb while he kept the rpms up on a customers car. With smoke coming out like crazy I ask him what the hell he's doing. His answer, cleaning the carbon out before it gets a full tune up.
