i was just wondering if the 2006 gto's came with the 7.5 differential? i was looking for it around the forum but i think i just wasnt looking right. help out please. thank you

Its a spicer (Dana) M80 not sure what size it is, its an IRS. They are all the same size in the 04-06 GTO except the 04 has a smaller pinion flange then the 05-06 (LS2) cars which was required for the larger drive shaft. So all the internals are interchangeable. Theres only 1 company that makes gears for it and the tallest gear available is a 3.91. So the parts are limited for it. What exactly do you want to know about the diff?

Am I correct when I say that the GTO independant rear is completely different than a vette's? There is no swapping parts between the 2 right?

i hear that the diff. on the 06' GTO are junk. i am trying to figure out a way to beef it up or something.

Who did you hear that from? There was problems on many 04s that whined and thats about the only problem with them (they were replaced under warranty). I know a few people who run high 10s on these diffs without any problems for the past 4 years. I have over 80 12 second passes on a stock diff in my GTO with no problem at all.
The best thing to do with the diff is get 3.91 gears and a spring tuning kit.

The rear ends are ok for what they are. Some people get into the 10's with them while some break them in the 11's/12's. I've already had to have mine replaced. Either way they are very loud, they clunk and whine, but that is normal.

What did you replace yours with? Rebuilt stocker? Kaaz? Something else?
