I am wanting to remove my rear end from my firebird. I have never removed one befor. what is all involved and how hard is it? I have a donor 10 bolt housing that is pretty much brand new to replace my rusted one on the car. I want to take the internals from the old one and put them in the new one. Any links to previous threads or advise would be awsome. thanks

Is there anything wrong with your current rear end or is it just rusty? If just rusty, paint it. Don't be stupid. If you don't know what you are doing, it will kick your ***.

I disagree, I have never done one, and had mine out within about 3 hours from jacking up the car,,with beer breaks.

i used a writeup made by a member here, made it pretty simple...do some searching, the gears and axel section isnt huge,,like 5 or 6 pages

Removing the rear end is not that hard. Just a few bolt LCA and the brake line that attaches to the rear end on the left side of the chunk, I take the brake calipers off the rear to avoid bleed the brkae and fluid messes. The lower shock bolts. Driveshaft, Then the rear end should be ready to pull out. If I am missing anything some one will correct me.

Now to the switching of gears, is a different story, blacklash depth of gears need some practice on that. Hopefully someone can really give some better help on setting the gears up.

Did mine yesterday. Me and my buddy had mine out swapped all the brake stuff put new pads, rotors and brake fluid in. We did it in under 5hrs.
