Default Which would you buy? 2005 C6 or C5 FRC?

I am almost positive I am volunteering for a tour in Iraq, I am sunk in bills and bs here and it'd be great to have all my debt paid off in 2 months and to come home with $25,000+ cash! I am now thinking of what I want to buy for a car because yes, I am going to buy a car... (spare me the youre an idiot invest it crap).

I am thinking of a C6 Corvette, a C5 Corvette and am E46 M3. But this thread is about the Vettes.

I remember reading plenty of places about how the C6 Corvette is not as good as the C5, not at all. That the C6 has numb steering, and very little road feel. The car is not as easy to drive because it lacks communication skills and is unpredictable at the limits and overall that the C5 is a much better sports car. This upsets me because I surely do love the look of the C6 and if I am going to buy a new (to me) car I want the NEW kind of feeling that comes along with buying. Not something that someone got tired of so NOW I get the hand me downs. Is this true about the C6 or are these people smoking crack. This came from a C5 zO6/C6 owner... he said he sold his C6 because it wasn't great at all.

I want something built nicely, and the Corvette really isn't that but I heard the C6 is light years ahead of the C5 in terms of that. But to be honest I don't think I want a C6 if it's some soft, a chick would drive it kind of car that is indeed numb, uncommunicative and unpredictable... I like cars that provide feedback, easy to drive at fun levels. The C5 throws me off because as of now or a year + from now the interior, and pop up head lights (the conversion ain't cheap either) will just be too old for me and leave me wishing I had some new age. Kind of like guys who had C4's when others had C5s... it seems like when a new gen vette comes out no one cares about the old.

What do you think? In a year+ would I even be able to find a nice C6 for $25,000?

a c6 for 25k, no way. Not without a ton of miles. You can find a nice 05 with low miles for low 30's. Or you could find a low mile c5 zo6 for mid to high 20's. Most people say the c5z is closer to a race car, and it's faster than all but the 08's. I think the c6 looks better inside and out, but doesnt perform as well unless you look at higher end models like z51 cars or 08's which can be had for high 30's. Maybe by the time you get back you could get a high mile c6 for 25k but not now.

I am partial to the FRC, but if you could find a nice priced c5 zo6 I'd get that. I'd like to know how they drive with the more aggressive gearing.

Guy you should make quite a bit more than 25K. What branch are you in? If its Army you know your getting at least a year and thats good money right there. I made about 53K my last trip but I was an E-6. Anyway I am partial to the C5 and dont really know to much about the C6 other than your not going to get much of one for 25K compared to what you can get in a C5 for the same price. Thanks for serving and volunteering, many of our boys need a rest already.

Get the C5, do the Tigershark front and rear bumpers and make it look like a C6 on steroids! I'm doing that right now!

Godspeed to you, thanks for serving!!!!!
Drive one of each and decide for yourself.
I like my C6, but will not bash C5s, as never owned one, thus comparison would be biased; hard for anyone to be objective unless they have owned both or spent a lot of seat time in both.
IMO, GM should be giving special incentives to our troops.
Regarding the M3, very different vehicle, more expensive to mod, and nothing compares to a LSx.

I don't know how you're swinging coming home with $25K unless you're going to reenlist tax-free while you're over there. I've done tours to tax-free zones but I still had bills at home (married). I guess if you have nothing to pay at home then you would bank quite a bit especially if you swing BAH somehow. As for the cars I LOVE the gearing of the C5Z over the crappy M6 that was in my T/A. Now my 5th and 6th gears can actually be used whereas in the F-bod they just drop the rpms like crazy. Oh and 1-3 being shorter is nice too If you're worried about what other people will think of your car for not having the current-gen corvette then save up some more and get a C6...$25K isn't going to cut it. You can expect to pay that for a nice lower mileage C5Z that's a few years older than a C6. You need $30K+ to swing a decent C6. Really you should drive both to see which you like better. One thing's for sure is that I love my C5Z in stock form...better than my 427RWHP Trans Am by far!!

I agree with the above statement, drive both and see what you like. Honestly both are awesome cars and you will have the same amount of fun in either one. That being said, you can pick up and excellent condition C5Z for less money than a comparable C6. I'll leave the decision up to you!

If you can spring for a C6, that is what I would do, er did.

C5 is a great car, I had one and loved it. Went from a small H/C setup to a Stage II H/C, then added a P1, then finished with a 408 stroker. Car was a blast!

I know some of you C5 owners are not going to agree, but the C6 is a better car. Fit and finish, interior, stereo, etc.... With mods you can make anything fast, but this is a better car and this is from experience.

I have resisted modding my C6 and will probably only do bolt ons until the warranty expires. Then it will probably get a supercharger or the very least H/C package.

Thanks for your service! Either way, you can't lose. Both are great cars!

Both great cars.

I have a C5 Z06 and my twin brother has a 2005 C6. Have plenty of seat time in both.
I love my Z06, but if to do again I would probably pick up a C6 (Z51).
Two totally different cars. Drive both and then decide.
