I think as long as you have cd changer controls that you can use an isimple adapter from peripheral electronics, available at Best Buy for 100 bucks. Mine works great, though I might sell it soon because I'm thinking about going to an aftermarket HU.

is it worth it to change it over so it can have an auxilary port or should I just get an aftermarket radio that supports it?

There is no difference between a base head unit and a Monsoon head unit (other than the little Monsoon label). Any 02 head unit supports an external CD changer so it also supports any one of the aftermarket auxiliary input adapters (iSimple, GM9-AUX, etc.).

If I do this, will I lose the ability to play cds? Will it require a dummy cd in the player in order to play the ipod?

You will lose access to the external CD changer if you have one but it won't affect the single CD player built in to the head unit.

Using the isimples, all you do to play the ipod is hit the cd button to change the source and it should play. Very easy. Also, you can control the ipod's general functions like track forward/back and volume with the HU and steering wheel controls. It'll also charge the ipod.

IMO
convert all your CDs to MP3 and get an ipod/usb compatible HU.
no skipping and virtually endless amount of music can be stored
with one of these type of HU`s.
i just sold most of my CDs after doing this to cut the cost
of my new HU (alpine ida-x200).
also MP3s are cheaper than CDs and
the monsoon HU is inferior to pretty much everything.

I have this setup wit hthe GM9-AUX i believe and it works great but i still get a hissing sound is there a reason for this or does anyone else get that ive checked the wires and there all fine. I guess it could be that almost all of my speakers are blown too but ive taken out most of the blown ones. ive also noticed it gets worse if i raise the treble on the radio itself.

SSJimmy, is your adapter near any amp wires, i.e. power, RCA or anything? I would guess its getting interference but other than that i'd have to just say check your connections.

Ironxcross do you have the CD head unit or a cassette? cuz if you have the cassette you can just get a $4 headphone jack cassette tape. But otherwise, i think your going to need these: (I think these cars have 9 pin jacks, right?) AUX-BOX2 http://sonicelectronix.com/item_8051_PAC+AB-GM9.html

AUX-BOX2 Cable (from head unit to aux box)
http://sonicelectronix.com/item_8051_PAC+AB-GM9.html

I'm pretty sure thats what you'd need.
