Default Very disappointing night at the track, Need Input!

Well I ran my car at the track last night for the very first time. It is an 1/8th mile, the temp was 91degrees with 44% humidity and Bar. Press. was 29.84. Elevation is 2805. Please tell me what you think about my times, with the mods I have. I was having horrible 60ft times. Every time I would shift into 2nd, I could feel the rear break loose and on my second run, almost got sideways.

I know I need more seat time, as this was the first trip to the track in my WS6 and only my third trip to the track ever. This was full weight and on street tires. Have to drive thru the water box, there is no way around it. I know I need a tune. I put the LT's, Y, and Catback on the day before. My dad was with me and said that every time I shifted you could see a black haze leave the tailpipes, so I know I am running very rich. I had only driven the car about 30 miles since the install.

MODS:
LS6 Intake
SLP Lid w/K&N
Pacesetter LT's
Mufflex Y
B&B Triflo Catback
Eibach Prokit
WS6 Short stick

1st Run: Put the PSI in the tires at 28 and attempted to ease it off the line, but still spun pretty bad.

Reaction: .4879
60ft: 2.4081
330ft: 6.3182
1/8th mile: 9.3812
MPH: 80.96

2nd Run: Lowered PSI to 25 and left the line at about 2K, spun bad again.

Reaction: .6103
60ft: 2.3011
330ft: 6.2188
1/8th: 9.2760
MPH: 81.23

3rd Run: Lowered PSI to 22. VERY BAD, left the line at 3.5K, spun all the way thru 1st and 2nd, missed the shift to third.

Reaction:.5022
60ft: 2.5086
330ft: 7.5349
1/8th: 11.6179
MPH: 64.04

I was really disappointed in the night, but that's how it goes. My car feels fast, but the track times don't indicate it. I used to have a 96 KB Cobra that ran consistent 7.90's at the same track and I thought for sure this car would be 8.50's to 8.60's.

Go on a race night instead of a TNT night Travis. The track is a LOT better.

Are you racing down in Lubbock? I think for the Elev. your doing good, get those 60fts. down in the 2.0-1.9 range & you'll be running in the 8s.

Put a nitto on the back for decent traction, but not too much to break anything...then ease out the clutch and you should be able to pull atleast a 1.9-2.00 like that and that would put you about where ya wanna be.. on street tires its really hard to get a decent run especially with a M6.. a tune sounds like it wouldnt hurt either, plus the heat yadda yadda yadda... there is plenty left in the car, just get stuff sorted out and it will run what you want it too! good luck!

Nah I wasn't there I just saw this post, put two and two together, and figured out who it was! But like I mentioned, go on a race night, the track is usually way better. They've got a TNT tonight between the bracket races.

I dunno if it helps, but i ran the 1/8 last night (no bottle, mods in sig.), and i got a best time of

60' Ft.- 2.11
1/8- 8.64 @ 93.8 mph

I dropped the tire pressure down to 15lbs, and heated the tires up. (Falken fk452) Had traction problems off the line so i could only leave at around 1250 rpm. Try lowering the pressure next time and heat the tires up. My street tires worked better when i did the burnout. The 60' dropped from 2.4 to 2.1

you guys need to try running on stock pressure which is 30psi and make slight changes from there. I run stock tires on a SS M6 vert and on stock pressure which is again 30psi I've run a 60' of 2.04 and a best time of 8.52. my best mph is like 88.xxmph. I had way more traction issues when I dropped my tires down to 25-28 psi. I'd chirp off the line(leaving pretty much off idle) and I'd spin them pretty hard on the 1-2 shift. The best 60' I could get off was like 2.10. On 30 I can pull 2.1x 60's and better. A lot has to do with the temp of the pavement on the track too. I'll probably make my next trip in the end of july since the ground will definitely be hot(as far as it gets). I'll bet you when the ground heats up I'll get my 1.9x 60' and my 8.3x-8.49 on my nitto 555 street tires!

I've had the same experience in my street tire racing days. My bests were always at 30ish psi.

How is the build going? We need to meet up! I am going to try and get a set of MT ET streets on another set of wheels and in a couple of weeks try it again. How is the S-10? Want to see it run, let me know when you will be running it locally.

I've cut a lot of weight out of the firebird but other than that its just gathering dust. The truck is running. We've had it to DTR a couple of times testing. Not sure when we'll go back again. We're running a class called Texas Pro Stock. We were at Denton last weekend and we're going to Houston next weekend with it. Best we've run so far is a 4.96@139.

You must have run out at DTR right? Don't feel bad my car couldn't break into the 8s when I ran it out there. I think that track is awful on Friday nights . At least the Quarter mile at penwheel is supposed to open back up soon. You haven't raced and stomped a certain red Z-28 a couple times here lately have you?

LOL, yeah I was at DTR. No, I haven't run any red Z's lately. Why, has a Pewter WS6 been stalking you? I heard penwell should be open in mid to late july, hope so!! You live in Midland?

No I live over in Odessa ... and yes I think I am being stalked heh
The guy has almost identical mods to yours... Either way I think DTR is pretty slow because I ran a 9.06 the last time I was out there and I had one of the fastest times out there. So don't worry to much about it. Plus if you spun much I have never noticed them really prep the track on Friday night...

9.06 is pretty good, what mods do you have? I have been mistaken for a couple of different Pewter WS6's. Heard one around here has a Procharger running around 9psi, never seen it though. I am going to post a sound clip tomorrow of my new exhaust set-up. I am very impressed with it.

So far all it has done to it is a lid, Headers and true duals. But mine is an A4. It takes a little bit less finesse to get good numbers. I maintain that the track is just slow because none of the cars get anywhere near the numbers from the rest of the nation... I wanna see what the quarter mile times are whenever it opens finally.

It has to do mostly with the elevation at the track, not really the track itself.. (i'm from Midland)

Keep at it Travis.. it will get faster with practice.. they always do.
