Autozone isn't going to do you any good. The low oil level sensor is in the side of the oil pan, something is wrong with the sensor or the wiring to it. It's supposed to come when you're about 2 quarts low, then turn off after a couple ignition cycles when it senses the right level, and the PCM sees 194 degrees.

your oil level sensor is probaly dead. I can't remember but I know on my LT1 (Haven't been under my 98 in a while) the sensor sits in the pan and you can easily unplug it... Look for a sensor on the pan and unplug it see if that fixes it.

yea the change oil light comes on when it senses bad oil (if its been run hard or cheap oil) it comes on between 3k and 10k miles, autimatically at 10k miles, but if it senses it needs to be changed it can come on as early as 1500 miles. its all in the owners manual but to get the light to turn off turn your ignition to the on position (car not running) and push and hold your trip reset/oil reset button for 12 seconds. the oil change button will then flash and turn off. good to go

The car has no idea what physical condition the oil is in. The computer calculates it off of mileage, average speed, driving conditions, etc. If you left it up to the computer and the "oil change" light, you'd only change your oil every 10k or so. I've owned many GM vehicles that use the same system and I've NEVER seen the oil change light come on before 6-7k.....

I had mine come on, had a look, plug wasn't completely seated into the sensor. The way the wiring was routed around the tranny cooling lines was putting tension on it. So rerouted the wiring, plugged it back in, good to go.
