Default just blew up my 355, help me!

ok so i was racing my 89 camaro with a built 355 and 125 shot and it went low 11s but then my timing chain broke, i'm assuming i bent a few valves on the Performance RPM so i'm gonna fix it and sell it to my lil brother (noboostnogo)
whats better and what can handle more abuse on my new 383 project timing chain or noisy gears??

did you happen not to replace with a new timing chain? or did you use the $30.00 compcam special timing chain hardly good enough for a daily driven 350 chevy truck? give some detials in exactly what you did and used so we can figure this out better..... jake

from what he told me, he was spraying a 125 shot off the line and hit the rev limiter in first by the time he shifted to 2nd it was too late!!
I actually think he used a high dollar timing chain for once.

hmm, did he have the limiter set too high? oh well he has another motor he is building on the side so he will be fine..... but is he building the motors himself? just cause you hit a revlimiter dont mean you normally blow a motor...... how many miles did the motor have?

well he was spraying it and hit the rev limiter, thats what i was told i dont know if that could really break the chain or not but neither the dizzy nor the vlaves were open when he tried to start it up, so valves will need to be fixed

the engine had about 5k miles on it and about 80passes at the dragstrip and like 4 diff. 700r4, his compression is about 11.2:1 hes got a forged eagle bottom end with domed pistons and i-beam rods, edelbrock performance rpm heads, 175cc and 64 combustion chamber, 1.7? rocker arms a pretty big cam and a fully built 700r4 rated at 700horses, 9 bolt rear end with 3.42 and some mickey thompsons.

go with gears. they sound goooood, but a chain is supposed to be stronger.

Just get a new double roller timing chain. Cloyes makes a good product, I'm sure the Edelbrock piece is nice. I'm about to run my first gear drive timing set so I can't comment personally on how they sound or perform.
