Default oil consumption only on even side?

Took the intake manifold off the ls1 I swapped into my Tahoe this morning and found something interesting -- oil sludge in the intake runners on only the even side the odd side was clean.

I had installed a drier/catch can on the PCV and breather and was only getting traces of oil. The engine was burning 1.5 quarts every 500-600 miles while I had it in my car for about 2000 miles.

Anyone know what could cause this?

Maybe the oil was still there from before you had the catch can.

If it was there from before the catch can, wouldn't it be on both sides? Only 2,4,6,8 have visible oil residue in the intake runners.

Maybe your car sits at an angle while it's parked.

Don't know what could cause this on just one side, but if you are going through that much oil, it is very unliely it's all due to the PCV system, mine was eating 1 qt every 1,000 miles, I just had it re-built by Norris Motorsports and the rings were toast! I had a catch can too but it was onlt catching a little bit, I now have the LS6 PCV system.

The piston rings in these engines are designed to have very weak tension to reduce friction. My car goes through a quart every 1200 miles or less depending on how I drive it. Many others have the same thing happening; I think it's just the nature of the engine.

As far as the oil only on one side, it may just drain that way or just be easier to see on that side for some reason. When I had mine off, I saw the most oil inside the #1 and #2 intake ports in the head.

Maybe I have a "oil consumption freak" My 02 uses less than 1/4 qt between oil changes, 3000 intervals.I have used various weights of Mobil 1 530/1030 and for the first time 0w40 Mobil. It's not my DD,18k since Nov of 01. was there any internal modifications on the 02's that could explain this? I don't baby it when I get it out. The one thing I did early in its life was install a Metco breather, I know there has been opinion on this both ways.
