Hey folks,

I, like many of you guys around here have a SERIOUS traction problem. I've done quite a bit of research on here on other boards, and from what I can deduce, M/T ET Street Radials appear to be the best out there for traction, so I bought some, in the absolute biggest size I could fit in the fenders, 315/30/18.

My question is are these really the best out there for traction, or are some of the road racing tires such as the Yoko A048 or Mich Cups or Falk RT-615 a better alternative?

I also heard that these tires "sway" and are kind of unstable at higher speeds. Is this true?

The BEST would be to use a 15 or 16" wheel so you get more sidewall.

But as far as low profile drag radials go, you can't beat the Mickeys.

I'm expecting the same power level, mid 700's to the wheels and that is what I'm going for. From what I hear they have better sway, or lack thereof, compared to the Hoosiers as those are the only others that compare to them so far. More sidewall the better, however I don't particularly want to roll around on a 15" wheel. Being a turbo car you have a slight advantage from a dig with it taking a second to build boost and by that point you're already rolling which obviously helps traction.

i think hoosier makes a radial around that size. i know the guy who tuned my car uses the 315/30-19 hoosierson his tt ford gt and they felt really stable around corners

the mickeys do sway in wet weather but on dry they are fine. they arent going to keep 700 hp on the ground but they will do the best job of the options available.

Very true. No DOT tire is going to hook with 700rwhp on the street, unless you run 15" wheels because M/T makes some pretty fat drag radials in that size.

Sometimes I wish I had AWD, lol. My old setup was only 450 rwhp, and it would roast the 275 Yoko street tires at 60 in second and in 85 in third in the cold weather!!! I should be making anywhere between 650-750 rwhp with my new setup, so I'm really trying to put that power on the ground.

Do any of you have any experiences with these R-compound road race tires? Are they as good as these drag radials?

they have a stiffer wall and wont be as well as a drag radial:in my experience these are the tires ive used and how they rank in terms of stickiness:
1. hoosiers315-35/17-dead hook on the street 30psi-only 2 rungs on the tires-never driven in rain but feel stable
2. m/t et street radials 255-50/16-needed more heat that the hoosiers to get sticky-drove in rain, dont go over 35mph
3. bf drags 275-50/15-complete garbage even after 15 second burnout-never in rain but didnt feel as solid as the other tires even in dry
4. nitto dr's 315-35/17-great street tire in the rain, but spun through 2nd gear on my auto

i did have the the 26x11x15 et street on a weld draglite but never got to run them, but just fro mthe feeling they felt the stickiest of them all. hope this helps

Hoosier and M/T make slicks, therefore their dr's are probably going to be better than the big names like Nitto and BFG who make millions of other tires too.

But like Hennytime said, the autocross tires are made with a stiffer sidewall for cornering in road racing. Stiffer sidewall is not what you want, you want a soft sidewall so it can flex and stick to the road.

That being said, I have 295 BFG drag radials and my car put down 436rwhp. I have no problem hooking on the street. I run about 22psi and even without a burnout I can slip the clutch and dead hook in 1st gear from a stop.

at 600rwhp on the m/t's my car would spin until about 55-60 mph. even from a roll.

couple guys around here have the new Nitto NT555R2. seem to be bad ***. i have mickey andthey suck in the rain. i want a good sticking street tire. that i can drive 60 in the rain and not worry. mell Mickey get on it.

and yea the mickeys do "sway", scared the **** out of me one day when i hit it got up to about 110-120 and when i left off thinking everything was cool the car just "changed lanes" on me . After they got "broken in" they got alot better but dam they moved around alot more than i expected so just be careful and get used to them you'll see what everyone means... I had 315/35/17 M/T drag radials btw. Nice car and good luck im sure it will hook semi decently for u

^^hmm mine have been perfectly fine in the dry. and ive had em up to 140 without an issue.
