What has to occur to activate the Low Octane Table??? I'm sure it's KR, but how much KR? And how many occurances of it?
Basically, what are the parameters that the PCM uses to determine when it's time to switch over to the Low Octane Table? Just wondering if anyone has figured out a general set of parameters...

Re: What has to occur to activate the Low Octane Table??? You're right.. it's associated with the PCM monitoring significant knock over and extended period of time. It will fail over to the *low octane* ignition table to save the engine from damage resulting from detonation. Basically, you get a lot of timing retard and your car runs like a dog. However, since the pcm assumes this is from bad gas, it resets the value and restores the regular ingnition table as soon as it sees the fuel level in the tank increase by something like a half tank from where it is. So, if you're curious about whether or not you're running the low octane table, just run the tank down, go fill up and if that was your problem, it should go away. If not, you'll probably need to look elsewhere for the cause of performance degredation.
