Default what cam for a daily driver?

I have been researching for a while, and can not decide. The car sees mostly highway miles for now, but in the fall when i start college it will see mostly city miles. I was looking into the ms3 cam and i like the numbers that people are throwing with it cam only, but they were telling me not to due to the mpg. What is the mpg of it anyway? 10 in the city? What do you all recommend? I will have a 3600 stall with in the next week. and other mods are in my sig, also i migh spray a little.

You will want headers before a cam. A MS3 will take a good tune to be a daily driver.

is mpg all your worried about? heres what i would do...

converter (atleast 3800 if your going with that cam)
bolts ons
cam

also with a cam that size, your going to need a new rear end and i would do the trans too b/c they will not last long.

try a search and see what others are doing to give you an idea before you go and throw a big cam on there. people are seeing 11's with a small 224 cam

i have 1 3/4 headers and in my rear end it has a detriot locker and moser axels. it had the locker when i bought it, i just replaced the axels. When i get a cam put in it will be tuned by henderson performance in san antonio.

I have a feeling someone with mention the TR224 no doubt. Just looking at your mods, do you still have the stock manifolds on? I think TR has a smaller cam ment for stock manifolds and LS1 intake. Other people here would defiantly know what you need, I only post because I am in the same position as you (going to college and want a cam).

I am looking at the TR224 for myself or even a 224/227 as a mild N/A cam and later to be FI motor. The 224/227 is also said to be a nice cam for a little spray.

What else do you plan on replacing when you do your swap? So far I got LS2 timing chain, Ported LS6 oil pump, ARP cam bolts and crank bolt, and an assortment of GM gaskets. Also looking at the dual spring kit TR has which should include springs, seats, seals, Ti Retainers and locks.

If it's gonna be a city driven daily driver, you can't go wrong with a 224/224 duration cam, or even one a bit bigger in the 228-230 range. Anytime someone doesn't know exactly what they want, but it needs to drive good, the 224 is always a great choice. It will be relatively easy to tune, make great power under the curve, and drive nicely.

Like previously stated, you'll want to finish up your bolt-ons before you start thinking cam swap. IMHO, the MS3 would be too big for a FIRST cam in a DD. Maybe if you'd had a cammed car before, you'd know what to expect, but to take that big a leap all at once might become a headache for you.

Good luck!

the car will get an ls6 intake, new springs, pushrods, roller rockers, fuel pump, and maybe mill the heads and bring up the compression(depending on what cam i get) and some other small bolt ons.

have you ever been in a big cammed car? if you havent i say go no bigger than a 228 or 230 for your first cam. bigger is not always better and its been proven a million times.

oh and Ashes, the cam isnt going to matter if your using a small shot of nitrous. anything 200+ is when i would look into a nitrous cam so youll be fine

assuming your brother drives a lsx based car, what size cam is it and is it to small or too big to you?

i am going to take out the back seat, but that is not that much weight. I would like to get a tubular k and a arms, adjustable torque arm, and panhard bar. I would like to do this on a set of 243s preferibly pull offs, but will probibly get them ported.

with everything you listed it doesnt seem like you have a tight budget so i would go and get the ms4 with a set of afr heads. take a look at texas speeds site.
