I have one and love it! Some people will tell you it does not filter that well, or it get's small holes in it or something along those lines.

The purpose is cold air a lid seperates the cold air from the hot air off the engine.

I have a K&N filter under my lid...I like the lid setup more than the filter that replaces the lid.

i got my lid for $10...try to get a k&n or volant setup for even under a hundred. Most guys go with the lids because of their price and they are dyno proven for a couple hps.

so if it wasn't for the super high price would you get one?

Now which one is better? dyno proven?

Well on a dyno they are probably going to gain the same HP. Now the only way one would gain over the other is if they had like an FTRA setup with their lid but just a lid by itself is not going to gain anything over a K&N or a Volant setup. You would need to have a lid plus something else in order to get more hp. IMO...

yup lid = K&N setup....but lid and FTRA(or custom ram air) > K&N setup...hands down

it is dyno proven that the people lose hp with the drop in K&N filters. I got my lid because i can pull the filter when i race.

Are you talking about the craptastic K&N FIPK? I have one(previous owner) and for the life of me I dont understand how exactly its supposed to work, I mean it only has access to ambient air in the engine compartment, so how the hell could it be more efficient?

Exactly. Only way I see it actually getting cooler air on a f-body is if it's installed on a 98-02' bird with ram air hood & at that the hood would need to be de-baffled to let the air come straight in without much restriction.

Other than that, don't waste your money on the thing, just get a lid & be done with it. It's cheaper, dyno proven & looks better.

ill agree that it would prabably work better on a t/a..
i really dont like the fact that there is no "heat shield".
ill agree with zmonster it seems that there is really no direct or a sort of "ram" air going into it.
if so, probably hot.
wow nice contradiction huh?
any one wana buy a fipk? lol jk

but honestly i think it looks cool.
sorry, i dont mean to criticize but some lids just look stock and arent "flashy"
(not that it matters) and i really mean flashy in " "

I tested MY car with a dirty K&N drop in vs the paper filter, picked up 1hp and 3 ft lbs. That is on a completely stock 00 SS A4 NO other mods.

Well you can always paint it up. Several members have awsome paint jobs on them & there are also clear lids from MTI if you can find one.
