Adding cats, do I need a cam w/more exhaust duration? Adding cats, do I need a cam w/more exhaust duration?
I have a Mufflex Y which will probably be replaced with Jet Hot's new Y with cats. I'm guessing the new Y won't flow as well as the old Y. Should I start planning on a new cam with more exhaust to make up the difference? I don't want to loose power by add the cats, it might be nice to gain some.
Would 224/228 or 224/230?
Any comments would be apprecaited.

Re: Adding cats, do I need a cam w/more exhaust duration? An increase in backpressure will contaminate intake cycle with exhaust, you will probably have least power loss by leaving same cam in there. You could add exh. duration for peak power help, but your mid range will prolly suffer torque losses from extra duration.This is how it should work, there are exceptions to this. Spreading lobe centers and adding duration will prolly help gain back some power with out too much mid range trade off.
