Default Need some sts Turbo help!

Just picked up a new ride with a sts kit on it. Apparently the 60-1 sts turbo was sent into a shop by the previous owner to be rebuilt and worked into a bigger turbo. From my understanding they put a a bigger exhaust wheel on it to flow more like a 67 upgrade. I believe they call it a 63-1. The turbo is supposed to flow 75 cubic feet. The issue is the turbo makes power until about 5000 rpm and then falls flat on it's face only making about 489whp and this is from 10lbs. I'm assuming it's due to the small turbo being maxed out or just too much backpressure. (but i'm no pro at this though )
My question is can I move right into the T 67 upgrade turbo from sts? I don't want to have to do an all out dyno tune so i'm looking for something that flows the same but won't have the crap out on power on the top end.
Any help appreciated
Car:
01 Camaro forged 346
sts w/fmic
longtube headers
255 walbro w/ 60# mortons
A4 w/ 3500 stall

Has patriot dual springs so I should be good there.
Does anyone know how much a t-67 flows?

I'll have to look for leaks. It's making a max 10lbs at wot, I wouldn't think it would with a leak somewhere but I don't know.
Also, is the intercooler piping to the intake supposed to be cold? Had it out today and noticed that the pipe is pretty warm..?
Not sure on the Iat's.

Well did you wrap those headers? Also check the blow off valve it could be staying open. The inter cooler pipes will be a little hot during Idle. As far as the turbo it sounds like a hybrid that do not work well on rear mounts. try the Master power turbo Mpt 70 with the 96. AR that should flow way better or the Tc76 from force inductions.com. I assume they clip the turbine wheel to fit the housing and that wont work also what are the specs on the turbo itself. its stamp on there,

The turbo is the 60-1 that sts has with all the base kits. I agree with you on the hybrid thing not working so well. I didn't wrap the headers, that doesn't help power though just spool time right?

Spool and power tested my self. Spool time you will know big time after the wrap. Power yes it will help. On a run on my old ls6 motor first pull was 489 at 7 psi. No cool down still on the dyno tires still rolling second run the turbo was way louder and I pick up 1.5 psi hp was 501 so that proved it for me.

If I change the turbo I might just put the stock manifolds on and wrap them.

That would be the way to go! If you give jose a call at force inductions.com he can get you right with a turbo.

The TC series Turbonetics are great bang for the buck. I'm running a TC76 on my setup from FI. Small overall package and a 1 year warranty too.

Will this turbo work? It's a Turbonetics # 18033 (I couldn't find any info on it at all??)
Supposed to be a 67mm. I don't want to have to modify the piping right now.

Not sure on the rest of the info, still waiting myself.

Would a T70 Garrett: (A/R .80 Exhaust: A/R .87) be a good upgrade from what I have now? I suppose I could search too

It'll leave you room to "grow". On the 346 you have you'll probably be getting quite a bit of lag. My guess is that the turbo wouldn't really begin making full boost till 4000+RPM. The -67 is probably a better choice for the current setup....just my $0.02

Lag will be a small issue with that turbo. 4000 is a little over the top. With a good tune and wrap exhaust it will spool alot lower than 4k. That turbo should put you in the 600 hp range or a little more. Hell a MPT 70 on a gto around spool that turbo around 3,000 full boost wth headers. I would run those numbers past DR turbo or jose at force inductions.com befor pulling the trigger on it.

Possibly, but .87 for the exhaust is significantly bigger than the -60 or -67. My -67 wrapped doesn't make FULL boost till 3100RPM. Not arguing, you might be right....but I could see the lag being an issue unless everything's set up damn near perfect and the Air/fuel ratio is in the mid-11's at WOT to create lots o' exhaust heat/velocity. This is just my $0.02.

So what turbo do you suggest?
