Default Is there a difference between mph with a street tire vs a Slick?

I hope that i'm askig this question in the right fourm. Lets take a car with street tires that trap lets say 119mph. I have been told once a slick is put on the car the mph will fall. Is this true and if so how much mph will this car loose? I'm talking about a street tire that is lets say 295/35/18 compared to a 28inch tall slick or ET Street.

in theory yes it will. for one you are looking at a larger tire so it will take more power to spin a larger tire and a slick is exactly "effiecient" at high mph. ever watch one in a burnout box? they marshmellow up.

Yeah I see that the tire gets bigger the faster that it goes. Thats why I thought that the mph would probably go up if anything. I was kinda using the theory of if you put bigger tires than stock on a car you have to get the speedometer recalibrated because you are going to travel a little faster than stock. I was just wondering if anyone could tell how much of a difference there would be in the speed.

it will vary on set up. a taller tire is going to make the car go any faster. it takes more to turn that tire.

On my last LS1 car, I ran 117.2 on Kumho 711's. Switching to BFG DR's, I dropped 2/10th's (only leaving at 3100 or so) and ran 119.2. I bogged the crap out of it on my 119 runs.

What happens is you get better traction, so you get to the end of the 1/4 quicker, therefore not making it up to the same MPH, but a faster ET.
