Default Best street setup

hey guys my dad has an 01 magnetic red 2 coupe, he wants to begin a build over time. we already have a vortex ram air with air bridge and borla stinger quads. he wants to have a 500-600hp street drivable car which is very reasonable. but he wants to go n/a and i'm trying to convince him to go s/c. what are your guys preferences for this much power? and i have also read that a stock ls1 block starts to have trouble after 500 hp is that true or was that guy a retard? any and all suggestions are welcome.

We built this C5 years ago and it is this years Sept car in the ProCharger calendar. It is still on the stock bottom end, no problems and it also has a head and cam package on it. Bob

I also say get a procharger kit, might as well get the D1 kit from the start and don't look back. No need for heads but might as well throw in a blower cam while you are at it. Definetly isn't needed though.

A heads and cam setup will bring you barely to 500 if spec'd properly. I actually am putting my setup that I never installed up for sale, should be around a 500 hp setup with a good intake. Pm me if interested.

No...you will need new heads (afr 205's come to mind), large cam similar to the g5x3/g5x4 or comprable, ported fast 90/90, pullies, long tubes, off road x-pipe, and catback of your choice. Probably need new injectors and better fuel pump too. Def need a spot on tune too. It can be done on a stock CI ls1 as there are guys on the board with 500 rwhp but its def not easy or cheap.

how bout the mti v1 cam, complete lg street headers back kit, afr 205's crane 1.8 rockers, fast 92mm intake and tb, kenne bell boost a pump, aeromotive fuel rail kit, venom 40lbs/h injectors, and tuning? would we need the pullies and if so what exactly do they do besides get rid of parasitic hp loss?

Do you have the specs on the V1 cam? I checked MTI's website real quick and didnt see it listed. Your probably going to need a cam in the mid 230's to maybe low 240's range in duration, so im not sure if thats what the V1 is. Everything else sounds pretty good and I would say def get the pullies as they are quite helpful on heads/cam setups, especially as your trying to approach the 500 rwhp HP mark. As you stated they basically free up parasitic HP loss by not allowing or inhibiting your accessories from pulling available power from the engine.

Here is someone with a similar setup to what you are looking at:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ghlight=v1+mti

pulled 460 rwhp, not too shabby and his mods are in his sig.

Here is a C5 setup with the V1 and Milled AFR 205's:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ghlight=v1+mti

477 rwhp

With the mods your looking at you should be in the ballpark but might need a slightly bigger cam to hit the magical 500 rwhp mark. Also, not sure on what size primaries on the lg street headers but your going to want full longtubes so minimum 1 3/4 inch primaries or maybe even step it up to the 1 7/8 primary version.
