Since there really is no set"policy" that I know of, it depends on where you live and the attitude you go in with.

I can tell you if you go in for a diff problem and they find ground up tire in the wheel wells you are probably in for some work on getting the warranty honored.

Some dealers are also are more enthusiastic if you're a repeat customer on vehicle purchases.

I've had good luck with both my selling dealer and another dealer (600 miles away) with a performance oriented shop foreman and mechanics. :D

I also had a really bad experience the local dealer whose clients are mainly the white bucks/white belt/plaid pants and gold chain set. :eyes:

Get to know your shop foreman and parts guys and that will tell you a bunch about the dealership.

That isn't true at all.

You should read the Magnusson Moss act.

From what I've read if the dealer can make an actual link between the part thats installed and the part that failed they have a case. So lets say you add an intake which lets more air in. If you pop a motor from it being lean than they have an arguement because the tune wasn't meant to have the extra air, you added more air so you made it run lean and seize.

I've had entire motors warrantied before when I was driving my F-Body everywhere. Then, this dealership in Houston threatened to void my warranty for a dead alternator due to my aftermarket stereo which has been in the car for 2.5 years.... go figure.

Here is the Act, http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/warranty.shtm,
very long read. Essentially, the onus is supposed to be on the manufacturer to prove your add-on created a failure. You will hear from some the Act does not matter, as once the dealer denies, the burden shifts to you, which entails probably hiring an attorney. A good rule is to discuss bolt-ons with your dealership, and have them install the parts if they are in agreement that the warranty will be honored. Do not expect any dealership to warranty the powertrain after you add a SC or do a H/C package.
Even if you are denied for a powertrain issue, the rest of the warranty is not affected (i.e. nav buttons, sunroof, etc...).

Even if you are denied for a powertrain issue, the rest of the warranty is not affected (i.e. nav buttons, sunroof, etc...).there is the next problem. say your power window motor goes out. you know your powertrain warranty is gone from the cam you put in. dealer claims the extra vibration from the cam broke the windings inside the motor you are now SOL unless you are a electrical engineer. you then pay to release your car, take a day off from work to show the judge your weekend of vibration testing you did, to show the dealership is gay..

now shit like that doesnt happen everyday but it can. most dealerships are decent with boltons. now like your said the nav. buttons would be tough for them to void, but then again not to many cars has buttons that flake off :o

If your gonna sit around and worry yourself silly over what ifs pertaining to warranty, don't mod it.

I have heard of warranties not being honored for "spirited driving".

Of course they blow the thing up a few times and push it or the service place to the limit.

Usually it ends up being a "buyback" which is the last resort, but again forget that on a highly modified car although I am sure that has been pulled off also.

From my own experience, ATTITUDE matters.

Also, living in Calif (the best place if your a consumer ) helps.
