Default Bent axle in Strange 12 bolt

I've been fighting a bad vibration problem for awhile.Recently installed a Spohn torque arm and really brought out the vibration.
Pulled the wheels off and put a caliper on the axle ends and found my problem.Driver side had .025 runout, pass side had .004(good).Atleast now I know where the vibration was coming from.
The axles were fine when I got the rear but after a few launches on ET streets the vibration came in.I figured 33 spline axles would be stronger than this?My 60's are not great, but I have dead hooked the car then bogged a few times?

Anyone else have this problem with a Strange rear??

Slowhawk, you might want to take a look at your axle and carrier bearings, they might have been the culprit. I know Hardtop was having problems and come to find out the bearings were designed for road race applications and not designed to take the shock from drag launches.Shoot him a e-mail I'm sure he will be glad to tell you about it and what they did to fix the problem.

I have a set of S/T 33 spline axles here if you need them.

Thanks Mikey,I custom ordered some stronger axles that will take all the launching I do and still take the abuse of sideloading on the road.

I assume you are talking about axial (side to side) runout? .025 doesnt seem too bad..

I cant see you bending the axles, I have over 100 5000+ RPM clutch dumps on this rear (1.680 best 60') in a 3600 lb car and its fine.

One of my rear welds runs out about 1" and even with 8oz of weights (bad tire, I have switched them) I dont have what I would call a severe vibraation, except at 50mph the shifter bounces up and down an inch but at WOT I dont notice it With the street tires I have zero vibration..

Not runout.I pulled wheels off.Put dial indicator on axle end and turned. My wheel was hopping up and down on the dyno.
They said it could of been caused by my dead hooking. My 60's suck because I would pull the wheels then bog hard.3700lb car and dead hook are NFG.

My ET streets bounce like crazy on the dyno when I leave those on when I dyno the car. I assume the vibration comes from your street tires as well. I dont doubt the axle is bent but it seems odd that it would bent that easy, they usually twist at the splines not bend at the flange - unless it was bad to begin with - never know.. Hopefully the new axles fix it for you.

Are you measuring the lateral runout or are you putting the dial on the axle and spinning it over and measuring the run-out that way?

Damn, you were pulling the front wheels with a 1.7 60' and stock raceweight?

He sure did... Saw it with my own 2 eyes. Frickin scary to see, but then Tracer X launched in front of me and almost hit the wall and I forgot all about Slowhawk's tire lifting launches!

Sure was cool to see though...

Yes it does pull the wheels and to top it off I just install LCA relocation brackets

Well,I replaced the axles and got rid of alot of vibration. Then found more serious vibration at high speeds.
Took the rear out of the car and found the carrier completely loose(side to side)Pulled the carrier out by hand and found a .010 shim mangled on the side.Pinion shaft had no drag at all and later found that was bent too .
Now I've been slowly rebuilding the rear on a bench replacing all bearings and gears, should be running in 2 days.

Note- I put the last gear set in so the problems were probly caused by my quick install.

After all this I plan on hitting 1.50 60's
