View Full Version : Removing the passenger side coil pack...

How in the heck do you rmeove the last bolt on the coil pack?? i tried to remove it but there just isnt ANY way of getting to it...i just wanna loosen it up a bit...

any help would be appreciated!

You can do it, but your going to bust up your knuckles. Just try a bunch of different socket extension sizes, and you'll eventually get it. After you do get it, toss it in the lake so your not tempted to spend 3 hours attempting to put it back on.

the reason i ask is because im gonna do my plugs again(been 35k miles)...i did it with the packs in last time and it was a PITA.

Yeah, if you take off the coil packs, and those big metal tubes on either side (I believe its part of the AIR setup) ... it makes plugs alot easier. And #8 is a sinch from underneith the car.
Just go at it like I said for a while, and when you do get it toss it out and u'll never have to worry again. The bolt is all the way in the back of the packs basically right in the middle. 10mm like the rest if I remember

one more question...

i ran out of anti-seize on 2 of the plugs on the drivers side...its been around 35k miles...im scared of possibly breakin the plugs due that I didnt put any...

should I even worry about this? thanks...i didnt want to make a sep. thread and waste bandwidth :)

I doubt you'll have a problem at all. I have done plugs without A-S before and it was fine.

lol, wanna know how to get the last coil pack bolt off?

I've got a pic of me laying across the engine so I have enough reach to get back there with a box end wrench. :D

I used a gear wrench. The ratching wrenches from craftsman they come metric or standard. Took me about 45 seconds to get that bolt off.

Well, I used a 1/4 palm drive Snap-on ratchet without a problem. But with some extensions you shouldn't have an issue either.

xphantomxws6 mentioned removing the A.I.R. tubes "toss it out and u'll never have to worry again." This is an incorrect statement *IF* you are still running catalytic converters. The A.I.R. system is there to inject air into the exhaust stream which in turn helps "light off" the cats, getting them up to temperature faster, therefore putting the PCM into closed loop faster. It will only be on for up to 240 seconds at start up or until the PCM goes into closed loop (whichever comes first). Removing this system has NO gain to power.

Now if you do not have your cats, then there is no need for it.

Just an FYI.

I do believe that xphantomxws6 was referring to the last coilpack bolt on the passenger side. Assuming that's what he was talkin about, I completely agree. Mine went straight into the toolbox and I haven't thought about it since. The other 4 bolts are plenty to hold the packs on.

I always use a Matco short ratching wrench works in less than a minute.
