Default Pontiac Trans Am Oil Pressure Problem

Pontiac Trans Am Oil Pressure Problem

Hi all. I own a 2000 Trans Am. I just changed the oil a couple of weeks ago, using synthetic oil, as I have always done in the past. Now the oil pressure gauge keeps going up and down at odd intervals. I don't want to ruin the engine but this is my primary source of transportation. I'm hoping it is just the gauge that needs to be replaced. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Probably no responses because it is too serious to contemplate. The last thing you want to do is guess wrong! I strongly suggest a trusted professional mechanic or the local Chevy or Pontiac dealer unless you are really good at analyzing things for yourself. Hopefully it is just a gauge issue.

How low is it going and how high is it going? Where does it sit at idle? And is it stock? Does it go up as the rpms go up?

+2 Only mine has a rough idle when the oil gauge goes down. Does yours do that too?

Low oil pressure can destroy your engine. Take that car into a mechanic ASAP
