According to the Standard Catalog of Firebird by Gunnell the weights are as follows: 1999 V6 hatchback = 3,340, 1999 Formula hatchback = 3,455, and the 1999 T/A = 3,490. For 2000 (in the same order) it is 3,323, 3,341, and 3,397 respectively. Interesting on the weights for the V8.

yeah it is, just out of curiousity what was the difference between the 99-00 LS1 cars that made a difference of 100 lb?

No idea. The V6 is basically the same weight but the V8's are much lighter. If just one of the cars showed that difference I would think it was a typo, but not both cars showing the weight loss. I'm going to dig the book out again and read the entire 1999-2000 descriptions and see if it is mentioned. I'll post again if anything is said. I'm going to check the 2001 weights too to see if it corresponds.

OK, I just read the several pages and found nothing specifically about the difference in weight. Also the 2001 models were basically the same weights as the 2000 models so no typos involved. Going back I looked at the 1998 models too and they were heavier too just like the 1999 models. A very interesting item that I found was that the 1999 Anniversary Edition was also lighter, identical to the 2000 T/A weight and again just about 100 pounds lighter than the regular '99 T/A. It's not like it is just a few pounds but approximately 100 lbs. That is quite a bit. The author is quite reliable as well, having written many catalogs and also is a regular at Old Cars Weekly. I know someone out there has the answer but it isn't outlined in the sources I have available.

sweet, i can use that extra weight as an excuse for why my car only runs 11.60s with a 402. seriously though, i do wonder where that extra weight is. thanks for the look up.
