3.73 rearend ZO6 trans gear combo ???
Im at about 600 whp turbo'd. I have 3.73 rearend and was considdering upgrading my tranny since its gettin tired. any recommendations and advice greatly appreciated. I love the 3.73s but want a little more top end back and was considdering going with ZO6 trans gears viper output shaft etc etc. would this be a good combo?? anybody else have this I would love to hear your top speed in each gear. Im not a drag racer its my DD and would like to do some road course or autocross type stuff. ( but digging outta the hole like a bat outa hell would be very nice too. Thanks ~Guy

for road racing the zo6 5th ratio will give u a lot better performance. i dont have my calculator handy but the 3.73s should be dead on for drag racing, since your not into that you might like 3.42s esp with the torque curve of a turbo engine. if it were me id prob leave the 3.73s in there and go with the zo6 ratios, youll have a quicker 1st and 2nd 5th and still a decent 6th (.56 zo6 vs .50 fbody)

fbody. (car in my sig.) and by ZO6 gears I mean gears with the same ratios as the ZO6 for the desired drivability and power distribution. Whatever I decide on, I am having it done to my current tranny by Ellis at Speed Secrets. He's pretty much the "go to guy" if you are in the northwest and have an fbody. so I will basically just have him order what I need and have him do it. ~Guy

There is an aftermarket model T56 with the 2.97 set that has been available for more than 10years. These gears are the single/double synchro design and will assemble on a Viper mainshaft.

The M29 gearset from the Aftermarket T56? The one that is rated 50 lb-ft less in TQ than the MN6? The Z06 (M12) ratios do differ from this in 5th/6th, but I don't see the benefit of upgrading to a viper mainshaft and downgrading to a M29 gearset. Would be tough fitting an Aftermarket or M29 input shaft in an LS1 also..

if body t56 is better for N/A since it has higher gearing, to stay in each gear longer to reach maximum boost, if u get the z06 gears i dont think u will go through gears faster, although i think the m12's 5th and 6th would be better on ours

The question was the 2.97 ratios being available with the double/ single synchros. Yes they do exist and have been available for some time. No, they are not the highest rated for torque .

ok then tell me, if you will, what is optimum for my setup knowing that I am shooting for a shorter first because the way the turbo spools it bogs or spins no inbetween. I also want more mid and top end since it spins the tires in 3rd and 4th under full boost so I was hoping for maybe a little longer gears to help with this (and for better road course driving). I just assumed gears like the ZO6 might cut it. Im going with the viper output shaft for strength since Im about 600 whp and plan to be as high as 700 whp eventually. Thanks for all the input guys. ~Guy

If you are willing to build/ modify, there is the Shelby GT500 TR6060 ratios. It is the new generation Tremec six speed but has T56 roots. The 1st ratio is 2.97 but the remainders are from the 2.66 set. That is, firstis 2.97 , 2nd 1.78 so on. The ODs are .8 & .63. This build will require an experienced trans shop and part modification but it may be what you are looking for.
