Default Turbo Advice?

Hi All,

I've pretty much decided to turbocharge my LS-1 powered '72 Maverick project, mainly because of the hassle of conventional headers. I'd feel a lot better building a set of turbo "logs" than a set of full length 4-tubes. Or maybe something is already available that will adapt... The engine in the car is a pretty much bone stock '03 Corvette LS-1 with an MSD 6010 box and Edlebrock Victor JR carb manifold. I'd like to orient the turbo so the shaft is parallel to the car's centerline, and I'd like a recommendation on a few things:
  • With factory comp ratio (10.25?), I'll be looking for 10# max with Alky injection and no IC. What (single) turbo to run?
  • The turbo will need to locate in the factory battery box area (front RH corner) so manifolds will need to point forward and crossover pipe will need to be low in front of the balancer. Will truck manifolds work w/o hitting my A/C compressor (I've never been able to find a good pic)?
  • If I build a set, what size primary tubes, logs, and crossover pipe diameters do I want?
  • Any good sites (I know, do a search) for hot side piping and accessories?
Thanks!

Russ

I'd be happy with 450 to the wheels for the (otherwise) stock engine. BTW, does the "instant e-mail notification" work for anyone? Not for me...

A standard 60-1 turbo will work then.

Thanks! I looked at your site, quite a few to choose from...how does one narrow down the selection choices for a "from scratch" application?

Which would be better for hotside piping, the turbo mounted to a bracket (1/4" plate to the RH front cyl head) with 16ga tubing manifolds, or the turbo hung from schedule#10 SS-304 hardpipe manifolds? I don't think I can weld either with my "skills", but I could at least tack up the mild steel and get a pro to weld it. On the 304SS, is this something that could be tacked up with standard MIG wire and C25 gas, then welded out by a pro later?
