Default What do I need to know about FL?

I'm moving to Gainesville in August after my wedding in July. What do I need to know?

I'm really curious about inspection. Does FL have a state automobile inspection? My '89 Prelude won't pass emissions due to (most likely) a clogged cat. Will I need to worry about this in FL?

Racetrack open most wednesdays and Saturdays.
What else is there???

Oh, no emissions worries. Any other questions I'm a fellow Gainesvillian, hit me up!

Ask some locals how to get to the track, there is only one little 2ftx2ft sign right before you have to turn, its the most peculiar thing. Seriously, you have no idea there is a track back there if you've never been there, its odd.

Having A/C is nice, its miserable this time of year.

Seminoles suck. Gators rule. The track is open to the public every Wednesday and Saturday. Hops is the best place to eat in town, Satchel's the most popular.

Thats about it. Pack your bags your ready to move down here

Oh I wish I had a choice but the future-wife is going to be attending graduate school at UF for her PHD in Chemistry so we're there for about 5 years.

I just got the A/C in the Camaro evac'd and recharged but it's still not great. Not sure what else I can do to it. If it's not super hot out or ridiculously humid, it works pretty well. But if it's a blazing day, it's on max blast and struggling.

The Prelude's A/C doesn't work at all but that's not going to Florida until Christmas time. Shouldn't be near as bad then so I'll have a chance to work on it and get it evac'd, converted, and recharged.

Where are these places to eat that you are recommending? I know nothing about Gainesville right now as I haven't been there. She was there for a weekend to visit the school but that was it. We're going to be living at Point West Apartments on S.W. 34th St.

Some good places to eat off the top of my head.....Ale house, Gator's dockside, Hops, Texas roadhouse, leonardo's pizza in the pan (good chicago style type pizza....not a true chicago style), and if you want a really nice night out Marks prime rid. And, there's a ton of little places to go.

That's 364 days out of the year here, but seriously get that thing working before you get down here it's hot. I always laugh when people ask about emissions testing I never even heard of it until I got out of high school.

Torquejunky, I figured that was how it was in FL. I don't know if something is really wrong with it though.

How well does everyone's A/C work? If it's hot out, I have to have it on speed 3 (not max) to keep it relatively cool inside the cab. I've been told that r134-a just isn't as efficient at r-12 was.

Being originally from New England, here is my guide to ease your transition.

1) Get your A/C fixed. Unless you like sweating from places you didn't even know existed.

2) Stock up on your tackle. There's good fishing in Gainesville.

3) If you wear any color other than blue and orange on game day - you're dead.

I don't use the A/C about 5-6 months of the year here. Gets down to the 20s at times during winter, and if you race that means kick *** air for good runs.

yeah get your AC fixed and you should be fine i have my windows down alot though which is nice if you on the highway but in town your back sweats like crazy. also be ready to sweat just from walking to from your car to the store and stuff like that. all in all though there is no where i would live I have lived here all my life though but I still wouldn't live elsewhere. its nice to drive your car all year around too.

getting your windows tinted to the maximum allowed will aslo help with the heat...if your A/C is struggling in PA heat, it's gonna be worthless during the summer here....
