Replacing The Head Unit Ok I like the Monsoon speakers on my 02 Camaro SS I just want to change the head unit. I want to know how will my stock monsoon speakers will sound with like a good Pioneer head unit and will I be able to use my steering wheel controls?

usually someone will post up "do a search" but, I too was once a noob and had questions.
anyhoo, stock speakers and an aftermarket head unit such as Pioneer or Alpine to name a couple will sound leaps and bounds better than the stock hu. in order to use the steering wheel controls you will need to purchase the pac-swi x which reads the signal and allows usage of stock steering controls. pac-swi-x usually runs around 60-$80
good luck with the swap.

The 2 weakest parts of the Monsoon are the HU and the speakers. Updating the HU will make a marked improvement. After that your speakers will go next just like all the others. The foam on the stock speakers deteriorates to nothing and you end up with just the cone left with no surround holding in place at all.

All you need to replace the stock Monsoon headunit:
* New headunit
* Mounting Kit
* Wiring Harness
* Antenna Adapter
* Steering Wheel Control adapter
To clarify the steering wheel control adapter, the PAC SWI-X is the universal IR one. PAC also makes brand specific wired units as well (ex: SWI-PS is for Pioneer headunits with the remote port on the back).
The aftermarket headunit will sound much better (clearer overall with better bass) than the stock Monsoon headunit.
