Default From spray paint to actual paint

I know someone selling a raptor hood really cheep and it has been spraypainted black...qestion is can you just aint over top of the rattle can **** or do you have to strip it off and start over again

block it off by hand then prime it with 2 part primer. block it again. then you can paint it...thats what i would do...and i do this for a living.

I would take it off with lacquer and a few rags, then sand/prime/paint.

if the spray paint isnt flaking, peeling or bubbling, all you have to do it scuff it up real good or 600 wetsand, prime, wetsand, paint. simple

Take it off or it will react later. Like stated above Laquer and rags and it will melt right off. I sprayed a car not too long ago that had the sail panel spray painted and i scuffed and primered and it started to react four months later when it got really hot.

Think about it with logic the best paint in the world is only as good as what it bonds to. In other words the most expensive paint in the world will not reassure you that it will be fine. Rattle can might be bonded but its not that much more time consuming to take it all off. Think if your gonna do it , it needs to be done once. So strip it off.

Never paint cured paint over rattle can anything. I do this for a living as well.
