Default oil pump still good after blown motor?

a friend of mine blew his LS1 a while back and is gonna give me the ported TSP LS6 oil pump off of it. my question is....should i let a machine shop or someone take a look at it to make sure theres no damage internally or would yall think nothing got past the screen in the oil pickup? my guess would be have it checked to be on the safe side but just wanted to see whos been here and done that before...

You can take a look at it yourself. Just unscrew the cover, clean it out, lube it all up and put it back together. Be sure to check out the relief valve as well as the actual pump gear.

Look it over really good when you do take it apart. These oil pumps are more finicky about debris than older type oil pumps. The clearances in between the gear, housing and rotor are tighter and can lock up more easily. Just look it over really good, examine the gear, rotor, and cover for any abnormal wear or scratches. You may want to even scrub the outside of the gear with some scotchbrite.
